Grammar aside, I don't see the purpose of paying more money for a tinier engine bay and the same drive train available in certain thirdgens.
Unless you get an LT1 six speed vette, or even an 89' vette six speed.
Just my .02 cents

demonbird, I'm glad you live 2500 miles away from me if you're driving like that on public roads. The odds of us ever meeting are near zero. I hope the odds of you living to be at least my age (I'm old enough to be your father) are far better than that.
Just remember that it takes an absurd amount of time to stop a 3300lb car from 125mph, especially with brakes dating back to the early '90s. Heck, it takes an absurd amount of time to stop one from 80mph. Or 60mph for that matter!

True. It is people like this dimwit that make cops HATE us on site. They susspect that as soon as we turn the corner we will "floor it" and start being stupid. No wonder I have only 1 ticket in my camaro and been pulled over 13 times. While in my moms carolla I have 1 ticket and been pulled over 1 time.

you guys are dumb, just because he's sixteen and stupid doens't mean the rest of us are (i'm eighteen but i've been on this board since i was 16). I know plenty of 40 year olds that are just as stupid if not more stupid than this kid. Just because your older doesn't mean that you have more common sense or by any means more driving skill. Stupid is as stupid does no matter what age.

True, except it's the exception rather than the rule. If I had to choose between two people to entrust my safety in a vehicle to, a 16 yr old male and a 40 yr old male, I'd pick the 40 yr old without a doubt. No substitute for experience.
When a kid is young and doesn't really realize what's under his pedal.. he gets in trouble. 2 accidents and 7 tickets later he might finally realize that he should slow down. Ask me how I know.

it is people like this that raise my insurance I'm 20 and drive like an old man most of the time
yet i pay over 600 every 6 months
there should be a test for fast cars. The state requires you to take a class for motorcycles why not fast cars.

But really it's not the fact that it's a V8 that gets most kids in trouble, idiots fly around in their four bangers like no one's business. The danger is still there. Typically the average teen behind the wheel of any vehicle is bound to be dangerous. Of course with rear wheel drive and a good deal of torque it encourages the urge to play around more. People need to learn to control their selves and get to know their car before they go out and risk their lives as well as the lives of others.

Hey, I've got nothing against young drivers and I never lump people into groups just because of their age. I know plenty of people my age who can't drive worth a darn even at legal speeds, let alone 125mph!
The big problem, as I see it anyway, is the lack of driver's training in this country. Sure they teach you that an eight sided red sign with the white letters "STOP" means you should actually stop your car at that point, but they do nothing to teach you how to control a vehicle. When I went through driver's ed back in the '70s my dad just laughed at what they were teaching us. My parents immigrated from Europe a few years before I was born, and my dad used to race the equivalent of SCCA showroom stock over there. So, one winter morning (we lived in Michigan back then) he wakes me up early on a Saturday morning and drags my sleepy butt to an empty K-Mart parking lot - with 5" of new snow on it. Taught me how to control a slide, how to hold one, how to get out of one, and how to modulate a brake pedal to I could manage controlled stops too.
I moved to California 16 years ago, took a silly little written test, and gave the state a few dollars. They gave me a driver's license. Every few years since then I give the state a few more dollars and they take my picture and renew my license. The State of California has no freaking idea if I even have the slightest clue about how to drive a car, yet they happily send me on my merry way every time I open my wallet and pose for that Polaroid. A little scary, don't you think?
By the way, I've not had a ticket or accident since 1980.
Ah, shoot, I'm starting to sound like my father already - sorry for sounding preachy guys!

I believe that it isn't the age that drivers are allowed to first drive, it's the training and lack of true skill and knowledge of what it takes in real-road predicaments. You could raise the driving age to 18 or 19, but you will still have people who have never experienced the "thrill" of being behind the wheel yet and they will be quick to do a few stupid things. I'd venture to say a large part of the fault lies in the hands of the educators. You may be able to learn what a traffic sign means, but when you are faced with a situation that requires quick decision and percise action, your stuck and you just have to be lucky to make it out of that situation in one peice.

I'm 19 and I drive a Camaro, so I pretty much have a big target on my back.
Since the temperature was in the 40's today, I took my Camaro out of the garage and went for a ride with a couple friends. Sure enough, I get pulled over by a cop because he didn't like the way I accelerated after sitting at a traffic light. I didn't spin the tires or anything, I just took off somewhat quickly and the cop must have felt intimidated by the awesome sound of my exhaust. He speeds up next to me, sees that it is a car full of teenagers, and pulls me over. He walks up to my window and stares us down and continuously shines his flashlight in each of our faces.
I say "Good evening, officer."
"What are you in such a hurry for?" he says.
Me: "Not in a hurry, just going to get some food, sir."
Cop: "Is this your car? Let me see your license and registration."
Me: "Yes sir, it is my car. Here is my license. Would you like to see my proof of insurance as well, sir?"
once again, the cop asks "Are you the owner of this car?"
Me: "Yes sir, I own this car."
Cop: "Why are you so nervous?"
Me: "I'm not nervous at all, sir. Can I show you my registration or proof of insurance now?"
Cop: "No. Get out of here, and slow it down."
He really pissed me off with that nervous comment. I am definately not afraid of any police officer and I was completely calm, as always, and am very used to dealing with cops (In 3 years of driving, 0 accidents, 1 speeding ticket, but I've been pulled over at least 10 times for absolutely pointless reasons). My intended continuous use of the word "sir" must have aggravated him, because it shows respect but at the same time can be considered sarcastic. Most cops I have dealt with were ok, but this particular cop was a complete dick.
Point of the story: due to my age and the car I drive, cops like to pull me over despite my safe and skillful driving ability. "Teens can't drive and they shouldn't drive fast cars".....just another common stereotype. A lot of us teens are idiots, but I honestly believe I am a better driver than 80% of all other American drivers, despite my age and limited experience. I don't think I am bulletproof or anything ridiculous like that, I just have confidence in my natural driving skills and my common sense. Some people can drive, some can't. That's basically what it comes down to.

sux about you being pulled over. some police do have an attitude but most do a good job imo.
in your instance it would seem to be a clear violation of the 4th ammendment. just for fun you may want to get a video camera and record the stops. i look at the camera as an "accuracy" device. the camera doesn't have a point of view or an opinion just shows what happens.
i am also going to give another plug for the National Motorist Association here. go to their web site, wonderful group. they try to repeal some of these nutty traffic laws and prevent passage of new stupidity. you should all REALLY check it out.
oh did i mention about the "ticket insurance" they offer? ya, i thought that might get your attention.
being responsible isn't about age but there is no substitue for experience behind the wheel. just like mike-n-orange my dad took me out and made me drive in the snow too. also MADE me drift that ol 50 something POS panel truck he used to drive. i still get a laugh thinking about it.
be safe.

I know my RS isn't fast (although it is pretty quick compared to most other RS's). Thing is, I wasn't even going fast. I accelerated quickly and the cop pulled me over. Turns out, a friend of mine had the same thing happen to him last year. He got a $50 ticket for "excessive acceleration"
what kind of BS is that? I didn't even know there was such a thing.

ok well let me clear some things up about what i was doin and knowing what i was doin.ok the road i was runnin 125 i have lived on four 16 years and i could drive up it literally blind folded. theres never traffic and theres no sense it the speed limit being 25. the fourways had stop lights all were green with no traffic so i went. and the cops down here would prolly pay u to do it again if u can find one around here without goin into the city. ok now with the "o your 16 thats why" thats a bunch of
i bet i could find quite a few 16 year olds here alone that could seriously make it onto a circuit cause thats all this town does is race and build cars. im not sayin i could make it but i do have a clue about these roads, my limits, and the common sense that tells me to let up off the pedal. to z28z34man maybe the reason u pay over 600 a month is your driving or the people around where u lives driving. i pay 62 dollars a month after i got hit by a yukon that lost control. u have to watch out for other people that might not kno what there doing but in the same sense u kno what your doin just like i kno what i was doin. if the lights would have been red i woulda stopped if there woulda been any headlights on that little road i woulda slowed down just take a minute to consider the possiblities before u guys blow up on young peoples driving.
