Porsche 944 S2

Ok a friends dad has a 90 or 91 porsche 944 s2 convertible. His son and I were talking and he was talking about how fast it was. No doubt I'm sure it's fast with a 3.0 Turbo, but I figure that if him and my car ran I'd probably take him off the line, but I'm not sure any suggestions? He's completely stock.

I have :

79 350
416 heads
comp magnum 270 H-10
Holley Street dominator intake
Edelbrock 1405
flow tech headers
true 2.5" duals
700R4

Not one hundred percent sure but I believe the 944 S2s ran about 14.6 stock 1/4 mile time so they are decently quick.

you might have this one, depending on what your 1/4 mile time, and him being complete stock doesn't help.

I cant remember if they were turboed or not but if they were then, yeah all he has to do is increase turbo pressure and he'd pretty much beat you.

I have no idea, you would prolly take him considering you are a 14 second car.

The defeat wouldn't be all that much though

IIRC the S2's where NA. I'd have to check, but I think the only Turbo 944's where the Turbe Coupe, and the S Coupe.

Edit:

NA:
944 Coupe
944S
S2 (vert)

Turbo:
Turbo Coupe
Turbo Cabriolet (vert)

Unless it has the Turbo badging, he shouldn't have anything more than a 3.0L.

I didn't think Porsche ever put a Turbo 3.0 in the 944. I thought the Turbo models were like a 2.5L or 2.7L or something. I don't know much about the later 944s though, so I could be totally wrong.

If it's stock I think you'll be able to take it. I'd watch out if it's modded though.

The 944 S2 runs about mid 14's stock in the 1/4. I think the only engine size on the S2 is the 3.0 Litre. It should be a close race if you run em.

Firebird, have you ever timed your car for the 1/4 mile?

If the porche is stock like you said, and these guys say it runs mid 14's, I guess all you gotta do is be a little faster than that.

I wonder which handles better though...where would you guys run? Off a roll? Around corners and such? Porche has always been pretty well known for their ability to take turns at 4589045845 MPH.

I read some reviews on the 944 s2 and owners insist its fast, but not quick. So my first thoughts of porches generally having pretty impressive 0-60 times might not apply. Specs I saw ranged from 6-7 seconds...which is respectable.

I think off a roll the firebird will really open up at higher speeds and take the porche...but if you guys are taking it to turns and curves, the porches mix of acceleration and reputable handling might make it a hard race to take.

Yeah, the 944 S2 is a great sports car, but the convertible is heavier than the hard top and will likely be a touch slower in the 1/4 because of it. And those 1/4 times posted here are pretty much on at mid to high 14s.

Race him in a straight line because if the road gets twisty and your thirdgen has a basically stock suspension he'll walk away from you.

If those heads are stock, I don't see that motor having a very good top-end at all, especially exhaling through those Blowtech headers. I say he has the best chance from a dig, the Porsche has a good top speed and probably has a stronger top-end.

No turbo 3.0L's from the factory. Only the 2.5L was turbo'd.
