quarter-mile for 88 mustang gt 5.0 and 89 porshe 944 turbo?

We have a buddy's porshe 944 turbo sitting in a barn at our farm and it is has been there for a couple of years. It is driven for about 10 hours a year so the owner told me to bring it home and keep it in my garage and drive it when i want. I want to take it to a track. My buddy has an 88 5.0 gt and I want to race him. Can someone tell me the quarter mile times on both of these cars? Which car will win? He thinks he will and I think i might have a shot

both cars are capable of mid 14's stock. the mustang would likely win because the 944 was never a very good car to launch. the et may be tilted one way and the mph maybe the other as the 944 is a fairly light car even if it is a bit down on torque.

But in a race on the street if it was longer than a quarter-mile race, should the porshe win? I have driven it before and it will be going along and then the turbo will kick in and bark the tires. Should be faster in a longer race, right?

IMHO, I think you would kick his @$$, then again I hate Mustangs. But the Porsche is a very nice car. My cousin owns a '92 4.9 (5.0 is what Ford calls them) Mustang LX, that I honestly have to say is very quick, but it does have some slight mods. But anyhoo, it wil be a fun race and you will never find out who will win till you race.

cool, I will give it a shot. He does have 126,000 miles on his car and he is not too great at driving a stick. The porshe has just 50,000 on it, and i have been driving a stick for awhile, so i am better than him.

I saw a track test for a 944 turbo in some mag where they droped the exaust in front of the cat put a big maf on it and ran 100 octane and it ran something like 12.9 at 107. These cars are very easy to get power out of, like 450hp for $3000 and still very streetable and mild mannered until it gets in the boost.

YEa but dont break anything on the 944, I heard a water pump runs $3000. I dunno abou that, I think its BS, but thats what I was told.
As far as the Race goes, you shouldn't beat him. The 944s were never made out to be a performance Porche, it was a budget porche. I would imagine if he is beating you Maro easily then he should handle the Proche. Now if you get him on the Highway you should have him easily on top speed.
Another thing, Turbos don't just KICK in, they wind up, and with proper launch you will be making lots of torque because you can be at full boost. Turbos are easy to get a lot more power out of because you can modify things to let the turbo double or even triple its output and totally make the car a beast. Hell look at the TTA's running 11'2 with just a feew simple Bolt ons. ANyway if your a good driver you might out drive him and win, just dont bet your money on it.
