i dont know where to put this so i will put it here
i have a friend with a bone stock 82 auto camaro that wants to put in 3.73. i keep telling him that 3.73, three speed auto, and daily driver don't mix.
now to the main ? what will his camaro top out at with the 3.73

Assuming 1:1 3rd gear and a stock '82 tire (215/65/15 = 26" tall).
At 5500rpm with 3.73's = 115mph
At 5500rpm with 3.08's (stock gears for A3 in '82) = 138mph
These speeds are assuming smooth road, no head wind and typical top gear redline for a 305. With 145hp you won't top out the 3.08's and you will barely reach top speed with the 3.73's.

i wanted to start a thread that proves to him that 3.73 are too much gear for a stock 305 and a 3 speed auto at that
