turbo'd ranger

So me and my friend are making a "documentary" about street racing for an upcoming film festival. So we've been calling everyone we can to either race each other or do burnouts/ doughnuts. Well yesterday my friend calls me up and asks me if i want to race a turbo'd ford ranger for the movie, so i agree and go over to his house. The kid with the turbo'd ranger shows up and lets me look under the hood. Its got a motor swap from a turbo coupe in it, rebuilt, forged internals, up graded intake manifold and intake, and a bigger turbo running 14 psi of boost. So we go find an empty road and line them up. My friend begins to hold up his hands so i stall my car to about 1700 rpm, the truck has a stick so he brings up the rpm. My friend drops his hands and we take off. i take him out of the hole and i stay about 1/2 of a car length in front of him till about 80 or 90 where we let off. The awesome thing is that his truck beat a WRX with intake and exhaust by a car length the day before and then i beat the truck by a half a car length.

Great Job!! Was that with the 305?

What kind of RPM's do you have at highway speeds. I'm thinking of going 4.10's (i have 2.73) to give my IROC a serious boost off the line. I have the 700R4 as well.

Is there a diffenrce in the shift kit and shifter, or are they the same thing. I'm going to be buying the B&M one but do I need a shift kit too? Thanks for all the info!

Edit: you have TBI, nevermind, but you should still start your own thread.

Nice kill BTW, impressive that you held him off, not bad for a 305.

I love the 4.10's, and he doesn't have tpi he has tBi there is a big difference. 4.10's would probably be great for you, but let me tell you it kills gas milage. I'm at about 2500 at 65-70 mph. And i have the B&M mega shifter, i love it and yes the shifter and shift kit are two different things. And thanks for the complements i killed him off the line and it stayed that way into third gear. I've already taken a '94 lt1 camaro in it, but it was an auto.

what's your 305's setup phoenix?

Also, 4.10s are overgear for a TPI car. 3.42s are a much better gear for a TPI.

Whats done to your car. I have seen a few 2.3 turbo Rangers, and they run pretty good. It probably weighs the same as a TC and should run pretty hard (as evident by beating the WRX).

Very few WRX owners are willing to drop the clutch @ redline to actually run that fast... And the few that are usually end up with a handful of transmission parts on the ground.

That being said 13.3's? You may be thinking of the STi's, those are a completely different animal.

They definitly don't run low 13's but they(as far as the average thirdgen is concerned) aren't easy to outrun, especially from a dig.

What is done to your car?

WRXs are low 14 second cars, MAYBE a high 13 with a good driver. But are tough to beat on a launch.

I don't know what's weirder, the fact that your 305 TBI smoked him or the fact that someone would spend that much time on a Stranger...

Nothing wrong with being different. A 12 second Ranger would be a fun little truck to scare people on the street with.

check my sig. I do admit, i would have a hell of a time from a dig. I have yet to race one on the streets, but my friend who has a 04 stage 1 srt-4 neon has raced a modded sti and evo's and he said he have beaten them, and i've beaten my friends srt-4 four times. But at the end it all depends on how a person knows how to drive their cars.

The WRX was NON sti. i have a performer carb., performer intake, summit racing cam, 1.5 rr's, hooker header 2055's, hooker aero chamber exhaust, bored .030, hyperutetic pistons, 9.5:1 comp. ratio with L69 block and heads (rebuilt with stiffer springs),50,000 volt coil, 8 mm wires, corvette 700r4, 2400 stall, and 4.10's and a posi out back. Just to let you guys know i don't think i'm anywhere in the low 13's i'm more like low 14's. The ranger had time slips with 14.5's on them. But remember i am also at about 4200 ft. altitude.
