LO3 vs. modded LT1

As you can tell by the title, the race was my mostly stock Camaro RS against a built 4th gen Z28 with what I'm guessing was an LT1. It was a '93-'97 Camaro with a cowl hood, and I'm guessing by the sound of his exhaust and the lope of his cam it had quite a bit under the hood. I'm assuming it was an LT1, but I didn't have a chance to talk to the guy so he might have done a swap, but I'm guessing it was probably an LT1.

Anyway, I was waiting to turn right out of AutoZone when I see him coming, and he revved at me when he passed, and it sounded very mean. I turned out behind him and followed him through town for a while. I have a '92 RS with an LO3/700R4, 188k miles, 3'' catback, dual snorkel, advanced timing, and thats about it. Pretty stock, and pretty slow.

We were driving along doing about 35 mph, and the car in front of the 4th gen turned off, leaving nothing but clear road ahead. I anticipated the 4th gen was going to take off, so I floored it and caught a nice downshift to 1st right when he stepped on it. I got a slight jump on him and I stayed right on him until about 55, and as you might have guessed, it was all over after that. By the time we got to about 80 or so and slowed down he had put at least 6 car lengths on me.

Not much of a story, but it was a very nice 4th gen, I wish I could have stopped the guy to get a closer look but I needed to turn off and he was headed towards the freeway. Actually I'm pretty happy I kept up with him for as long as I did, I was expecting for him to immediately put some distance between us.

Oh I'm plenty aware of the difference between a '93-'97 Camaro and a '98-'02, I'm just questioning whether or not the motor was factory. Judging by the front end it was definately an earlier 4th gen, which as you all know came with an LT1 in the Z28. It didn't have any Z28 badges, so I'm assuming it was either a debadged Z28 or perhaps a base Camaro. Either way, theres no telling whether or not it was an LT1, because the guy could've done a swap, which certainly would be the case if it was originally just a base V6 Camaro. This is why I questioned whether or not it was powered by an LT1. One thing for sure, it sounded mean as hell, and judging by what I heard it was FAR from stock.

A stock M6 LT1 car should be almost 2 full seconds faster in the 1/4 than a stock LO3. Chances are it was stock.

yeah that might do it i've got LTs, ory and a magnaflow, but the mag undercuts the sound so much you can barely hear it at idle. It's mostly just a LOT of bass sound. sleeperish until i step on it lol
