First Kill
Alright guys, so I have had my 92 Firebird sitting in the driveway for a while now. It needed an interior and body work bad, but the engine doesnt have more than 30k on it. The only upgrade is a non-drop air filter. Anyways I finished putting in my new carpets today, along with a few other misc things before I took it on its first real drive.(I've had the thing since feb and it spent all this time in the garage). So anyways I head down to pick up the mail, hit up autozone for a turn signal bulb and head back home. Maybe a 15 minute trip total.
Anyways to the point I get to autozone and theres a couple of kids my age hangin around in this strip mall next to where I parked. I head inside grab my stuff come out and there standing around the beast. Just basically talkin smack about how ugly the thing is (i wont dispute that its ugly as ****). Anyways the guy says he thinks his little 04 PT Cruiser can take out the Firechicken. End up heading out to the edge of town on the 4 lane highway. Wait for the lights to go green and do the deed. This guy starts redlining that little thing and as soon as it hits green were gone. I hooked up big time and shot off the line, I had worked my way up to a 2 car lead by about 50 and it was all over from there. Since I am 18 and really dont want to pay more for insurance than I have to, I let off at 75. Even though it was a PT Cruiser we all have to start somewhere.

Haha. Yeah well im guessing it was his parents car or something. A couple of mexican kids dressed up ghetto, driving a PT Crusier, thinking they were bad ***. Who could resist slaughtering them?
At the end I had him by 4-5 car lenghts.

Re: First Kill
I don't mind getting beaten by a driver who's playin a smart game, PT with a turbo engine is a sleeper, if it isn't R*ced out but is say, lightened and cleaned up(no emblems, slight tint) i have respect for that, would actually give me a laugh to be smoked by one. then i'd get next to him and ask for a rematch in the twisty's

Re: First Kill
rockit is right, the PT GT has the same engine as the SRT4 but with different intake runners so it actually makes more torque.
I happen to own a 2004 PT Cruiser with the Mopar Stage 1 upgrade and just a couple of other little bits, nothing that really adds any real power. It's run 14.4 @ 95mph here in the extreme heat of SoCal at Fontana. I know guys who have swapped out to big turbo kits and the proper fuel systems and are running low 13s/high 12s. One guy has even managed an 11.96 on stock internals. None of these times are with any sort of spray either. I've seen these things dyno well in excess of 450HP at the wheels.
Then again I've seen a primer gray and tan with bad body work Honda Civic run a mid 11 second pass. But I've also seen a guy with a 500HP Nova run mid 16s because he couldn't drive worth a crap. You just never know.
Sure, there are plenty of guys on this forum who will flat out laugh at my 14.4 or other's low 13 runs, but a stock 305? Not a chance.

Sorry but uh, coldasice, how do you know a mexican kid from any other nationality of hispanic? Sorry for asking but some may take offense. I'm half puerto rican and I always here people referring to hispanics as mexicans. Not cool, I'm not dissing mexicans but don't call me one. That's like calling a japanese guy, chinese just because chinese is more popular in this country.

Re: First Kill
because they are F*CKING HUGE inside! Actually once on this lil planet called earth this strange middle aged man told me people buy these vehicles with wheels and tires(just like our cars wow!) but NOT just to annoy everyone on the road with your wanna be gangsta stupid mad fly getting jiggy with it pedal to the metal 90 mph camaro! i couldn't imagine it but some people buy these "automobiles" just to get themselves from place to place cheaply and safely! what strange creatures, i've never met anyone like that at a racetrack...
sorry if that was overkill but i've noticed lately that i have two different attitudes when i'm in cars. when i ride in my friends escort, i look at a pt and say "hey there's a nice pt cruiser i bet he gets almost as good a gas mileage as your scort, an the head and leg room is AMAZING,wow look at the WOODGRAIN!"
Then, i drive my GTA,,, and it goes more like "HAH got you FOO! stoopid ol lady you shoulda bought a TRANS AM!! BOW TO THE 5.7 !!!"
now thats a lil over the top(don't drink lots of coffee then read TGO posts
) but i didn't notice it till now.
anybody else notice a superiority complex while you drive? I;m a bit annoyed with myself. Funny thing is, the superior you ARE the less of a ***** you drive like, for the first month i drove my car i was easin it around getting used to 300 ft lb's of torque

Re: First Kill
There are plenty of cars out there that will smoke my '92 Camaro - it's a 3.1L V6 so it's dog slow. That doesn't make it a bad car.
There are plenty of cars out there that will smoke my PT Turbo, even though it runs 14.4 in the 1/4 mile. Not screaming fast by any means, but show me a stock V8 thirdgen that runs that fast. Hard to do, huh? Doesn't make the PT any better or worse than anything else.
There are plenty of cars that will smoke your car too, and I'll be you anything they'd all do so and say "i swear, didnt even have to put it to the f/oor." Doesn't make their cars any better than yours.
A real car guy appreciates all cars for what they are, and what the owner has done to them, even if it's not something they would spend their own hard earned money on. To me, someone who only likes thirdgens, or Corvettes, or '71 Hemi 'Cudas, or Mustangs, but NOTHING else is NOT a car guy. Not even close.

Re: First Kill
however at the same time i have to disagree, 14.4 out of a stock car? got you on that haws, i haven't done anything to it that people would consider a real "mod" i actually hit 14.36 on tuesday. showroom stock? no, i'm broke and did what i could stock? definatley.however props on a fast pt, we have the same mph i bet it would be a fun race, later
Re: First Kill
Yep, you took on a N/A 150HP version and beat it. I'll bet you feel really good about that, don't you?

I am not brand loyal, but I love people who are, they're so much fun and so easy to make fun of LOL... I've given it to Mustang people when I had Camaros and made them feel stupid and gave it right back to Camaro people after I got my Mustangs. Its fun for me.
Re: First Kill
Well, its good to see someone who owns a Mustang and an Audi on a third gen website hates brand loyalty. I am 44 and owned every car under the son. I have had nothing but trouble with every non gm car I had owned. Including 2 mustangs that were brand new. I have a 87 firebird, thank god they dont check emissions in Va, and a 02 firebird formula. The only mustangs and pt cruisers I see are in my rearview mirror..

Funny the only vehicle we ever had issues with was our Cavlier. Bought new, in the junkyard at about 65,000 miles... Then again our Blazer has 175K and other thank the dipstick tube leaking a lot of oil it runs and drives fine. Never had an issue with any of our 7 Mustangs though, other than clutch cables on our 145K mile 4 cyl hatch!
The Audi, well that's warrenties, so let everything break

Maybe, ours ws kept very well, like all our cars, just always had issues with oil leaks, burning oil, exhaust fell off 3 times (original one rusted within 30K miles and for some reason they couldn't keep an exhaust on the car). Either way we had a few GMs since then and had no issues, but also never had issues with our Mustangs...

Wow I havn't been on here in a while, crazy how long this thread is.
First off I live in New Mexico, therefore they were mexican. That isn't meant to sound ignorant. Its that white people are the minority down here, population and demographic statistics show that the majority of people in my state are of hispanic origin, specifically mexico.
Hey man if that PT GT is that fast then I give you props, its not my personal cup of tea though.
Brand Loyalty is kind of a hard topic, each to their own. I personally like all kinds of different cars, I just have a little more pride in the brands I own.

Re: First Kill
Brand loyalty? well, yes and no..
no because you ought to buy a car as a car, not because it has your favorite badge on the grill.
yes because these cars are built for people, and people need different types of cars. i love the 3rd gens because bang for buck they have it, mustangs get us in the straight line but that's not all i care about. i want good power, great handling and easy on the pocket while mainting its use as a DD, i deliver pizza in my 14 sec t/a. a 14 sec t/a isn't anything special(well to me it is) but a guy that delivers pizza to you at 90 mph is pretty fun.
i had the money to go buy a 350 z, then a 2000 dollar gta with a new l98 popped up, i bought it cause it was the better deal for me, i don't even like pontiac, especially over the nissan, but for 2 gs vs 22 gs, im within tenths of him in the straight, and i can out drive most in the corners.
Now if by brand loyal you mean you prefer this car to that car simply because it's what you and your father owned, well thats just ignorant,
