350 vs. Type R
Will I beat a integra type R if he has a aem cold air intake and mugen exhaust and I only have big mouth manifold and tpis runners with a ported plenum and a slp cold air kit. I also have edelbrock headers and no cats with 3 in exhaust but I have a crappy magnaflow muffler at the end. Wish I had the flowmaster. Type R seems to be quick and it is stick and I'm auto. I have good grip and don't spin too much out of the hole but just wondering if I should challenge him. He's a big $#!T talker and was curious if I'll lose.

Re: 350 vs. Type R
If its a true Acura integra Type R its got about 200hp and comes in at ~2600lbs. 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, I don't know how much the AEM intake helps the car. I know that TPI intake mods are worth their weight in gold practically as TPI is the real restriction in making power up top.
I'd imagine that you should have no trouble out of the hole and through about an 1/8th mile. However, what worries me is the Type R's traps speed. 14.5 @ 96mph. Which is about right for a average stock L98 in good tune. So they are equal there. Up top, you might be in trouble as the slushbox is gonna run out of gear at about 110 to 115mph. After that you'll be out of TPI's powerband, and the slushbox doesn't have another gear to play with. 700R4's don't allow full throttle 4th gear upshifts. So you'll have to run up to redline in 3rd if it goes that far.
You should take him without issue if all he has is a cold air and cat-back.
1997-2001 Acura Integra Type R
Horsepower : 195 hp @ 8000 rpm
Torque : 130 lb-ft @ 7500 rpm
Redline : 8400 rpm
Top speed : 143 mph
0-60 mph : 6.1 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.5 sec @ 96.0 mph
60-0 braking distance : 115 ft
200 ft skidpad : 0.89 g
Curb Weight : 2639 lbs
Overall length : 173.0 in.
Wheelbase : 101.2 in.
Overall Width : 66.7 in.
Height : 51.9 in.

Re: 350 vs. Type R
I vote no problem, run from a dig, TPI will eat the Type-R out of the hole. Intake and exhaust arn't adding much to him, but your mods are pretty much spot on for a TPI motor, you ought to be basement 14's, maybe you'd even eek out a high 13. A near stock Integra won't be doing that, especially with street level traction - those cars can't hook on VHT.
Let me put it to you another way - I'd race the Integra in my 305 car from a dig an expect to win. If I were to you race you, I'd expect a pretty good beating.

Re: 350 vs. Type R
I guess the real question is what times he's started off with. I've seen L98's that couldn't touch 95mph trap speeds and were high 14's. I've also seen the freaks that run so low in the 14s that they might as well be a high 13 second car.
The big mouth and runners are a huge gain. And the headers and exhaust should make him a solid 13 second car with a good launch.
I've seen complete bolt-on L98's nail 13.1's on slicks at 99mph. Formul8's old car was like that. Never broke 12's but was extremely fast off the line. nothing changed under the valve covers.
