'84 Z/28 vs. '92 Mustang GT?

My friend is getting ready to buy a 5.0L Mustang GT (5 speed) mostly stock with the following mods: BBK CAI, BBK long tube headers, BBK O/R h-pipe, BBK pullies, Flowmaster 40s.

I have an '84 Z/28 with a 5.7 (automatic) with: Comp Cams 'Xtreme Energy' Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft, Edelbrock Performer Series Carburetor (600cfm), Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Hooker Headers (shorty), Custom exhaust.

Which one do you guys think would be faster?

Those mustangs can be potent, especially with the 5 speed. There isn't enough info to tell which way things are going to go. What gear ratios are you running? Is it an LSD? What stall speed to you have? What are the specs on the cam? What heads are you running and has something be done to them? Have you taken your car to the track and do you know what it runs in the quarter?

That mustang should really rip. More info on your mods? Otherwise you may be losing this one.

you guys really think hell have a hard time with this? those fox body mustangs are s*** their 3rd -5th gears suck. my dad has a 06 GT mustang and he pulled sooo bad on one that was modded it wasnt even funny and i can find a vid of a stock AWD talon with jsut raised boost tearing a modded mustang apart after the mustang hits 3rd. from your engine an mods i think you have this in the bag.

Re: '84 Z/28 vs. '92 Mustang GT?

If that mustang has a stock gear and nothing from a Gt40 setup then I say you got a good chance at beating him. But thats only if you have something done to your tranny and if you have more than a 3.23 gear.

No I don't THINK... I know because I had very similar mods, add on my Cobra intake and some gears and I was going low 13s (13.0s actually).

and here i was thinking it would be mid-high 12s with an intake and gears

but seriously. Those stangs accept mods like the homeless accept money. They are so light and there is alot of room to work. Don't count them out!

The right fox body with gears, tires and exhaust has a chance to go 12s. My friend had an extremely fast notch that went 12.77 @ 105 with a weak 225 rwhp and simple exhaust, pulleys, 3.73s, and a few small bolt ons. A heavy GT with stock gears will have a much harder time, but theres still the chance with the stars all aligned.

Re: '84 Z/28 vs. '92 Mustang GT?

Yeah i have been looking to run a stang out by me, all i can find is camaros, civics and cop cars...lol But non the less, a stick shift fox with gears and headers will generally murder a 3rdgen. The only was your winning is with gears and some stickies on the back. The only thing is saying that u have a comp cam of x and x design doesn;t tell us much.
