89 Iroc vs 82 GT 5.0
Me and my dad are both digging into our projects this winter and I think we kinda subconsciously agreed to see which ones faster this spring when they are both some semblance of finished. So, of course, I was wondering who you guys think will win down the 1320.
Here's what i think the mods will be come spring time:
Dad/Mom's (it's actually the only car my mom ever bought new!) 82' GT
~Original 302 complete with 60k miles, with perfect maintenance (oil changed almost too often In my opinion)
~World Class T5 out of a 89 GT.
~Hedman Longtubes
~dual magnaflow cats
~True dual 2.5" Dynomax X-pipe cat-back system.
~3.42 gears
~Crower camshaft
~4-barrel carb off a later (83?) 5.0 (82's came with lame 2-barrel carb)
~Custom work on the carb.
note: Don't ask me what the custom work is 'cause i don't understand it. My dad is nicknamed "doc" (as in doctor) due to his apparently witchdoctor like skills with building carbs??? Who knows! I just keep hearing things about how he used to make a living off building carbs.
My 89 Iroc-Z
~swapping to L98 out of a 88 GTA
~Fresh bore, stroke, and rebuild to a strong 383.
~Crower cam
~New roller lifters
~Airfoil (i picked it up for free)
~Mild handport on the runners.
~original WCT5 with a fresh rebuild
~3.55 gears
~Dyno Don's shorty headers
~dual Magnaflow cats
~hooker 3" super-comp catback
So what's the verdict?? I almost guarantee I'll be rolling on more torque and power since i think the mustang started with about 155 HP and 240 FT/LBS stock, but I know my dad's a magician with cars and he's also much better with the clutch than me. Plus i know that mustang is light as a feather (2800 lbs maybe?) because i've driven it before. But then again, my engine will be much fresher. And both are hardtop sticks so no advantage in tranny or roof (or lack of roof. ick) choices.
AH who know's. I've been shocked by times from both sides of the coin before!

Camaro (minus the fresh black PPG it'll have this spring):

note: there's also a wild card in this one. Turns out there is a possibility of me getting some very low milage 195cc AFR's used off a local guy. If this happens, you can guarantee i'll be borrowing some money and slapping them babies on there. Go fast now pay later right?

Re: 89 Iroc vs 82 GT 5.0
i would say it will come down to the grind on both of your cams. both 5.0 and the chevy 350s have been known to make about the same hp. it could also come down to tracation. the early 80s mustangs did not do as well as camaros in the traction catagory. look into the lower control arm relocation brackets and also boxing your rear control arms, you will get a much better launch and it could put you that much above your dad for about $100
