Here's one for you guys...

I have a race set up with a kid this spring. Considered one of the fastest around. He ran a friends 2000 silverado into the ground with a 3 car headstart. Its a Mitsibisti 3000GT VR-4 (twin turbo). Exhaust i think is only mod, but the kid has lots of money and doesn't talk much, so you never know. My camaro, right at the present moment, has a 350 4 barreled carb, mild mods, cam, intake manifold, carb, shift kit. Never been dynoed but i'd say....250 HP with higher torque. I know he would dust me right now. (320 Hp with similar torque, along with a light car and AWD) But i'll be adding 195 AFR heads, and THUMPR comp cam, performer RPM intake manifold, Hooker headers, RR arms, and a larger carb. i figure with somewhere between 380-400 HP to the wheel. With an upgraded spohn suspension.
How do you guys think the race would go?

you should try to find a different cam the thumper cam, they are more for the sound of big cam but dont really make good power, try to find something arond 550 lift around 270 duration and about a 110 lsa

Right now I'm at about 450 hp with my setup crank....thats like 360 rear wheel horsepower...
350 + .040
Canfield 197 heads
10.5:1 Compression
Comp 282HR Retrofit
Air Gap Intake
Headers
2.5" exhaust
holley 750

Going to take a lot more to get 400 rwhp out of a 350.

ya, nice set up man. I'm considering boring .030 over with a 3.750" stroke for the 383. that help me get into the 380-400rwhp. how do u think, lets say, 380 rwhp vs a 320 hp AWD 3000gt would hold up? i don't know the curb weight of the 3000gt but my camaro weights between 3300-3600.

get a 150 shot on top of what you have now and that should put you around 400rwhp, its the cheapest easiest way to make power, unless your really content on haveing a stroker motor nitrous is the way to go, just use it safely with high octane fuel and retard your timing a little bit

oh jeez, i keep forgetting about nos. Right now i don't think my engine would hold up very well to nos. Its just a plain 350 with mild mods. But in the spring i'm going to drop a L98 from a 1991 Z28. It the motor i'm going to do all the work to, starting with the bore and rotating assembly from eagle. (10.3:1 CR), then heads, can i still get say 195 heads for a 383? or what is your guys advice on that? ya any way, heads, then camshaft, (posted above), intake manifold, carb, then suspension work, and a trannsmission rebuild from probuilt. new rear end, gears undecided. then if i'm feeling up to it a 150 shot of nos. what you guys think? advice?

You should be able to dump a 75 shot on it right now, assuming the motor itself is in good shape. 3000gts are no lightweight, looks like most of the VR4s had a listed curb weight around 3800 lbs. His single biggest advantage over you is AWD. If you have a smaller nitrious shot, and you can hook off the line, I think it would be a driver's race.

okay thats good to know. i just assumed they were light. here something, when racing i beat most anything off the line and all the way through first, when i shift to second my shift kit gets me a good jump but come around 40 mph i slow down a bit, any explainations? suggestions?

sorry if its already been said since i kinda skipped a few posts but the reasons people build imports now are 1)cheap insurance(i know this ones been said) 2)gas milage you can build a 600hp motor that still gets 35mpg(anyone who says that imports get worse gas milage dosnt know what they are talking about sorry but my 93 civic went 15k without and oil change and i had to shift at like 5500 becuase my clutch was burning up so bad and i still averaged 38mpg in it *was in school and dint have money for an oil change let alone a clutch* the highest mpg NEW chevy vehicle is the aveo at 35mpg forget about the older stuff and yes i work at a gm dealership i know what the specs are on the cars. and finally 3) durability above civic for instance went 15k almost 16k without an oil change before i cracked the block. most of the imports are highly HIGHLY over engineered (toyota supra anyone? you can take a stock block and stock bottom end with 100K+ built it to 1200 hp and runs like a dream forever still) many many of the engines have some sort of forged internals stock. what do you spend on a forged rotating *** for a small block? 3 grand, a toyota 2jz? nothing, a nissan rb? 500 for pistons, a nissan sr? 500 for pistons, a mitsubishi 4g63? nothing sorry bout not having something for honda but i dont like fwd cars so i dont pay attention to em.
oh yah and for those that wil probably flame me, not finish reading my post and never get to this line the cars ive owned, becuase i would hardly consider myself a *tuner* although i do like some imports

I think that you could definately get a better cam. I have only heard bad things about the actual performance of the THUMPR series.

thoses things are hevey as hell to and with 250 to the wheels and mabye a small 50 shot youd have him. If you think about it he makes rufly id say about 250awhp or less and is 6spd(im pretty sure their 6) wich isnt geard good for racing, if hes stock i think like that you could prolly take him those things arent that fast my dads 06 GT mustang could take one. My freind had one wrapped it around a tree tho so i never got to ride in it so i dont know first hand.

I don't know any specs on 3000GT at all, but beating a 2000 Silverado that had a 3 car head start is no big deal. A Dodge Omni could almost do that and your ride could probably do it too. I have also heard nothing positive about Thumper cams. Don't forget the cheapside of the go fast formula: Lose the wieght. Especially the sub boxes/spare tire/jack & only race him with a 1/4tank or less. Might not sound like much but could be the difference in win or loss in a tight race.

Ok so the 3kGT comes stock with roughly 320HP with 315TQ... You said he had an exhaust... then it would be assumed 325-30 Depending Horsepower... AND he's AWD... No burn out on the line, just straight shot GO... Six Speed Standard... They weigh between 3400 and 3800 Pounds... Lotsa *** to drag across the finish line... But Relativly Good Responce...

Ok... Your Camaro... You said you would roughy 250HP... Lets say Torque... maybe 320.. 330... Depending, I would think the mods you had on it would put you closer to the 300 Mark... being the 350's HP is alreadly in the mid 200's give or take... But a Shift Kit... You have an automatic?... As was said earlier a 75 shot... would put you on par with the 3kGT but for as long as that buttons pushed down meaning You have to KNOW when to hit the button... I think the 75 Shot would be the Deciding factor...

WITH it... You stand a good chance... and if you can hook up right with the tires, the AWD will let it just take off...

Without the Nitrus... My vote would be for the 3KGTVR4 Not to mention with your 4 speed cap out Tranny against the 6 speed Cap out Tranny, he's got more gears on ya... But I say Go for it, whatcha got to lose?

fattyin up your mixture. run a 150 shot and bolt on some slicks. i ran a vr-4 a cople of weeks ago and with a set of M/T et streets and some vht i was able to stick with him off the line and blew past him with the spray in 2nd gear . the biggest advantage he has is his turbos and awd so the only way you will be able to counter that is your own power adder ( nitrous) and traction ( VHT + drag radials)

and for a fyi i got

i got a l98 with

cold air intake

o and yea most awd owners have a soft launch unless they feel like they will lose. a lot of them are afride of killing there tranny because a 5k clutch drop will give a killer launch , but it feels like you just took 5,000 miles off the life of your tranny every time you do it.

Dont forget AWD eats up alot of hp. Takes more to spin all 4 tires than just 2.
