my 305 vs 07 saleen

so my buddys neighbor has a 07 saleen supercharged, full exhaust, tuned, and pulleys, and he says he will race anybody for 200$. so i told my friend to tell him ill race him but only on the track, he only races from rolls so i think i got a pretty good chance, who do you think will win
and i think im going to put my bottle in the car just in case cause i really dont want to lose 200$

yea that waht i thought but hes only had the car for a few weeks, and its on 18s with street tires, im relying on his lack of experience at the track to win

Re: my 305 vs 07 saleen

I'd say 12's at best. I remember back in 05' when those cars first came out in the new body style. They ran bottom 13's, a few snuck into the 12's. Don't forget that the S197 cars are a bit more porky than an old fox body. Did your friend mention what kind of power #'s the car in question puts down?

For comparison's sake - a few of my friend's own 07'-08' Shelby GT500 cars. They both lay down close to 500 at the tire. Drag radials, tune, CAI. Neither one of them has run 11's yet... very low 12's at 117-119 MPH. I wouldn't rate them as pro drivers, but I wouldn't say they suck either.

Either way - post up the results!

Yikes, my friends GT500 with similar mods on ET Streets went 11.1 @ 120+. If the Saleen driver can drive he should win (you off the bottle) if he cant, you should take him. It's basically on him as your probably right on your times every time out and he needs practice.

Sounds like a pretty bad@ss race.
Just go all motor for now and see how it goes.

Nice job getting your 305 to run those numbers.

I'd say the difference is the tires then. 18" BFG drag radials don't "dead hook." Believe it or not, both of them get their best launches by doing a burn out - then turning the traction control back on for the launch. I've tried multiple times to talk both of them into a CCW drag pack with slicks and a set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears to replace the 3.31 cogs.

I'm still curious about what tires he runs. Here's one of the cars I mentioned in action this past Sunday:

The new drag radials I assume. How did he like them? What tires will he be trying out next? The car in the vids I posted was leaving about 2500 RPM slipping the clutch out fast. It left OK, nothing really stellar. I would love to see a full timeslip from the car you mentioned to see the break down of the run. I'd like to see where he's picking up his time vs. my friend's cars. The blue 08' in the vid ran 12.80's @ 113-114 completely stock, dyno'd just shy of 429 RW w/o any mods.

My apologies to the OP, just trying to gain some knowledge.

Re: my 305 vs 07 saleen

I'm 99% sure the tires he ran on were the non radial ET Streets but I would have to check. As for a timeslip breakdown I can ask him and see what he says. That 114 mph from a stocker seems loe to me. That much power the car should be turning upwards of 117-119. A well driven 03 Cobra at sea level is a 113-114 mph car.

Either way I will see what he says and get back.

Sorry OP

LOL You'd be dissapointed here then. The average 03'-04' cobra traps 108-109. The average Shelby does 109-111. Our track is 66' above sea level IIRC.

Like I said, you'd be dissapointed. The DA here sucks on a regular basis, not as bad as say - Colorado or New Mexico, but still less than ideal. I have a friend that used to race his 98' WS6 at MIR. He consistently went 12.9 - 13.0 w/ just a lid & cut out. He moved to FL, and much to his dismay his car couldn't muster any better than a 13.4 here in Orlando.

And I hope you haven't taken any of my posts as ford bashing, I know it can be hard to read people over the web sometimes. I'm just comparing notes...

Bad driving is all I can comment on the 1/4 mile time. How does it cost $15K more than a Z06? I am not up to speed on what new performance cars sticker for, but Isn't the Z06 a $65-70K car? That would make the GT500 a $80-95K car? Holy crap!!! They are NOT worth that much, MAYBE half that.

No way a GT500 costs more than a Z06, last I checked the avg. Z06 was selling for about $70K - $75K. My friend picked up his 08' GT500 for about $45K out the door.

Just sayin. They were both supposed to be professional drivers and my bad on the price the GT 500 only costs about 9 grand more than the Z06

Interesting... A GT500, even a non KR is a low 12 second car.

the S7 pulls 11.5s int he 1/4. where as the OP said hes capable of low 11s...

that independent suspension kills 1/4 mile times. its not so farfetched.

handling is a whole different story.

KR is a whole nother story, I can see that with a higher price tag. 12.8 is horrible, MT needs to be shot. I'm a GM guy saying that...

ah yeah that does make sense.. but i wonder how dodge gets off selling their v6 charger for the same price as a gt stang. even chevy's new v8 impala is only 29 maybe 30k and the v6 charger is still 32k...

as for the origional post i've never seen a new saleen yet but as far as numbers goes if your really running those times i think you have it he's only had for a few weaks so your driving will be better
