89' Maro vs. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

At my work a kid just bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST ( the one with FWD and a turbo) ok so he think his car will run all over mine. My car (in the process of building) will be a 355 with vortec heads, Compcams XE 272 cam, vortec heads, edelbrock performer intake, Holley 650 DP, Dyno dons headers, and a 3" flowmaster cat-back. It will have a shiftkit as well as a 2500 stall on the converter, and a 4thgen 3.23 POSI rear. How do you think it will turn out? This spring were taking them to the track, i'll let you know how it goes.

I had a 98 GSX. It was a quick little car-until I started modding it. I'm sure everyone has heard of the famous DSM jokes...

Ive raced both fwd and awd elispe.Be glad its not awd lol. They can be quick lil cars if built and driven right but if this kid is new to the car then teach him a lesson in the school of hardknocks.Your going to eat him off the line if you can hook the car nicely and then mat it.When he hits 3rd..toy with him lol gain a lil bit and then give more throttle.Make him think his car could hang...then break him down hard on round 2.Lol

Heavily depends on his mods, and if he knows how to launch the car. The FWD Eclipses are preferred here at the track over their AWD counterparts. I helped my friend Tony w/his '95 Eclipse, we upgraded the cams, turbo and exhaust. After tuning it with DSM-Link, the car suprised me by running a low eleven second pass on just the second time out....

My old pickup (95 Ram, modded 360, 4x4) would have killed him, you should have no problems.

DSM stand for Diamon Star Motors

Turbo Talons and Eclipses make 190hp stock. The stock turbo runs out of breath at 14 psi, but thats good bit of an increase.

Though I've seen modded ones hit 16, but they're good for low 15's high 14's stock. They can be a handful to drive.

Yea if his car is stock you will walk all over him, a good buddy of mine had a built one that he got to run 12.9's and low 13's. Upgraded the turbo, exhaust bov, all those goodies, fuel management system etc. Needless to say after he dumped so much money into it he went and bought an z06. Lets just say he saw the light lol

Re: 89' Maro vs. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

ive raced several eclipses all with different trim packages and walked off on every single one of them. my friend has a 97 with all kinds of mods on it. he thinks its the shizit but it didnt stand a chance against the 'maro. i had a 2.8l v6 at the time btw. i cant wait till i get the 350 in the car. i know itll be rape but i love the look on ricers faces when they get walked off on. they have some of the dumbest excuses too... "like i wasnt ready" or "my car wasnt ready" or "your tires must be stickier than mine"

Re: 89' Maro vs. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

I knew a kid in high school with a turbo 4 cylinder, stick, and he had done a few mods, not sure what all he had, but it would run 16's consistently. Probably the driver though

Re: 89' Maro vs. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

This thread is all over the place. The Eclipses came in a few trims which where RS, GS, GST, and GSX. The RS and GS came with a 420A. Which is the DOHC Neon motor. The GST and GSX came with the 4G63. They are two very different engines and shouldn't be grouped together. A 2.8 may hang, but even if it did just barely with the 420A. Most people who have them can't drive or maintain the faster ones. It's really not hard to get an Eclipse into the 11's especially with the GSX. You have to give credit where credit is due. I saw a 350 powered thirdgen with nitrous run a 16.23 one day, but that doesn't mean they all do. It just means some idiot drove it.
