My 1991 Formula's L98/700R4 combo made 222rwhp with only headers/hi-flow cats, Hooker cat-back and a tune. Still don't see it beating down too many LT1s...

Re: L98 Camaro Vs LT1/Auto
Why do LSX owners share the "r*cer" mentality. That nothing beasts an LSX. BS, in my local club we have several modded L98's that whip on stockish LS1's on the streets. No Not 1/4, but the streets, off the line. Matter of fact my little old 305 with ALOT of bolt on's and suspension work also takes LS1 cars on the streets, never really go further then 1/8 mile though. No need to on the street. Thats what counts were in from. IMO, just about any modern SBC can make power with the right combonation of mods and proper tuning. And L98 or LB9 can beat any LT1 or LS1, and any LS1 or LT1 can beat any L98 or LB9.. get what im saying.. Depends on many many factors.. But stock vs stock the higher HP car should and will usually win of course. And to what was argued earlier, yes, 1LE LB9 T-5 cars do run low 14's in stock form, enough to match a stock LT1. And more than enough to take one down in a short street race.

Re: L98 Camaro Vs LT1/Auto
I take stock Ls1's from a dig, and slightly pull from a roll on the street... LT1s are easier. Then again, I am not stock. I have seen some factory freak thirdgen's running 14.0's, that could easily dip 13's with some work.
But I will say, mod for mod, swap in an LT1 at least if you want power. The swap can be done cheap enough... If I were to do it over, I would have put in an LT1 at least instead of modding an L98.
Here is me at the track having a bit of a traction problem...

Your right... anything can have power with enough money... If you want best bang for the buck... go LTx or LSx.
An HCI build car easily get over 5k.
You can do a whole LT1 swap for under 2.5k, and that leaves 2.5k for bolt ons.
And flow? That is all being siamesed and everything... For that hassel, it is easier just going to an LT1 intake.

You can also do with Tim did years ago, but with an HSR instead of the miniram to save on cost;

Re: L98 Camaro Vs LT1/Auto
I know you were not asking me but, ill give my 2 cents anyways.
Just build youre L98, stroker kit, proper cam and tuning. And get ready to whip on LTX and LSX cars. Ive seen more than a few 355TPI and 383 TPI cars push well over 400hp and 450ft lbs. Add boost or juice and dont worry about a thing. Or to make more N/A power, go to Mini Ram, Or HSR, ect..
Right now im planning a 383 boost build, And yes it will maintain TPI, very modded of course. And im looking for 700+hp and sub 11's. If it were a drag car id say 10's easy. But its staying a heavy, good handling, cruiser.

Im literally laughing over this thread, its ridicules of how people get out of hand when one person says one thing and somebody says another.
Ok, you wanna keep an l98 stock? vs a lt1 race. Just stop wasting your money on bolt ons, just put an exhaust system on there better than the factory, and with a little mild tune, and slap on a superchangered procharger on there and you will be making nearly over 450 HP.
My buddy has that one his 91 formula l98, raced against a 95 t-56 lt1 stock, on the street, we were waiting for the lt1 at the next light for over a good minute when we raced. You dont have to add nitro, just add a cold air intake exhaust, and procharger, and you will have a pretty stout tpi car even ls1s cant keep up with. Yes there expensive, but you will add more gain then just doing internal or bolt ons for the matter.

I totally forgot about this thread. I sold my Z28 and plan on moving, where hopefully I can find a nice LS1 and start over.
