86 camaro vs. 02 cavalier
86 camaro vs. 02 cavalier
My friend is talking all this **** that he can smoke me in a race with his cavalier. Both of our cars are stock. I've got an 86 camaro, 305. Any idea what the outcome of this would be?
Re: 86 camaro vs. 02 cavalier
since you have the tbi it prolly would be really close, if you did manage to win. Your car makes like 165hp and his prolly like 150hp. His car weighs alot less though, but i do believe you have more top end speed. The cav would top around 102-105.

As long as it doesn't have an SS badge on it(supercharged, turbo or even the naturally aspirated SS) you should win. Good luck.

If its a ss cobalt, those go pretty good, they will eat a stockish 3rd gen up usually.

I have a 92 RS and a 02 cavalier... from personally driving both you will have no problemo beating a stock cavalier, shouldnt even b close. Just my opionion after driving both
Re: 86 camaro vs. 02 cavalier
Stock for stock you should beat him. Cavalier's look kind of cool, kind of fast & kind nothing! I hate Cavalier's. I remember a guy I used to work with had one and he weighed like 260lbs. but he would try to race that thing like crazy. But it was slow as heck. The Z24 you'd probably beat but it might be a closer match, depending on how well these 2 cars have been maintained. Lot's of people just assume more horsepower wins but you also have to maintain a car too. If it's not taken care of you'll get raped in races, generally speaking.
Now for the Cobalt SS it's no slouch but it'll get beaten by a 3rd Gen. 350 stock. I've watched a couple get beaten by a 89 L98 350.
I think since you have a 305 & he has a Cavalier that it's a fair match. Good luck!

if its a carb then its not a TBI, its either a LG4 or a L69, lift up the console lid and look.
(TBI became available in camaros in 88 and is called the L03)
If you got a L69 you'll kill him, depending how the LG4 is running depends how bad it will win

Re: 86 camaro vs. 02 cavalier
Sorry to bring this post up from the dead, but if its a 2002-05 cavalier with an eco motor and you wanna race him...go for a highway run. The eco's were slow on the highway runs...most people use saab turbo's on there eco's. As for a 97-01 ld9, those cars were fun for highway runs especially if you had a nx wet kit, or you can toss on a decent t3/t4 turbo and run 10lbs of boost and enjoy
here's 2 videos 1 of my buddy's old cavy it was turbocharged on stock motor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwKC1FVRLUU
And this is a video of my old cavy l built for my wife it has a built motor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQwAz...eature=related
but at the end of the day spending money on a 4banger or fwd is a waste of time the amount of money you spend on these are cars are a waste. You'r better of tossing money on a f-body or something with a V8
