I know that humiliation all to well. I lost to a Nissan Sentra, well to about 50mph. Started reeling him in but he hit the brakes and made a turn.

You know something funny? Everytime I see a van on the interstate, especially newer model 2002+ vans, they're always speeding at least 10-15 over what I'm doing. Most vans nowadays have about 250 horsepower with no torque but they have these numbers because I assume it hauls alot of kids.

On the OP who posted this thread I have to say wow. I can't believe you would talk trash like that and then get your butt handed to you by a car that doesn't have much more horsepower than you. Well, at least you were cool/honest about it. I respect that but most guys like myself can usually tell if you got a V8 or not. Next time just be honest and say I've got a 6 banger, they'll understand.

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

I lost to a Scion TC turbo last year. I wasn't exactly happy about it. This was before I did more work to my car but even then, I had already beat a LT1 car. I think it was the power/weight difference. I can tell a HUGE difference when you got a friend or 2 in the car and they each weigh about 200-220 lbs. a piece. I smoked a stupid Lumina one day last week when he blew past me & then I came up on him & said see ya. I had my friend with me & he weighs about 225 lbs. I could feel the weight on my ride but that's why I got the 350 & not a 305.

Well holy **** lol my V6 auto shifts first at 10, second at 25, third at 35, and fourth at 45-55 when I'm being nice to it.

When I want to push it hard I can get it to shift first at 30 or so, second at ~70, and third at ~90, but thats pushing 6500-7000rpm through each gear and I only did it a few times because I'm afraid of hurting the car!

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

Man i know that same feeling too,had an 89 camaro with the 2.8 in it with some nice subs I couldnt beat crap in that car.
I cant remeber how many times some punk kid driving a mustang that mommy and daddy paid for would pull up next to me and try to race, even after i would tell them its a 6 banger.
well those days are gone an so is the car I now cruise around in a 91 Convertible with a 305,and i tell you what after doing acouple things to the motor and rebuilding the tranny it goes fast enough for me.
Top speed iv got it to before she strated to die on me was about 125 on I-39 here in illinois.

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

you could always stuff some 4.10 gears in her to help you off the line. that will rock when the 350 goes in! the 4 bangers work better revved up anyway. shift manually, and leave off the torque converter. i have smoked people in my '91 pathfinder with a 3.0 liter by driving it to it's potential.

no problem ya a full peformance tune up with seafoam will defintly help and also like someone else mentioned a lower rear end gear like 3.73's. 4.11 would be a overkill with 4.10 least i think. and some decent tires would help. and when you have the 350 engine and everything to go maybe buy a 50 or 75shot for the v6 for a lil extra power and incase it blows your be prepared.

You could also get some a 3:27 or a 3:43 rear end from a 2wd Chevy pick up truck. I have 3:27 9 bolt Borg Warner & it hauls butt on the highway & the streets.

kinda depends what he's looking for if its more stoplight stuff or highway racing. i say if stoplight racing-3.73's if highway racing-3.27 if you do both-3.43 hell even 3.27 is fine for highway stuff. btw was it a hatch or was it a sedan?

Its all good man no one expects to beat much of anything with even a 305 much less those 2.8's. I have a 305 and have been beaten many times by cars that are complete POS's. Once i get that Ls1 that wont happen anymore

no offense but i laid out an aveo with my yugo the other day, still counts even if it has a 1.3, dual webers, cold air, ex cutout, 5 speed, nitto 500's. versus the stock 1.1, 4 speed.

I think the real lesson here is to STOP RACING UNLESS YOU'VE ACTUALLY GOT A FAST THIRDGEN! Torque isn't king anymore on the streets. Losing to cars like Hondas and turds like Aveos only makes our cars look more stupid to generations that already dub them slow and stupid.

Agreed! If your car is stock, it's not fast. I know, mine was stock, and was not fast....

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

I guess you feel a bit more humbled after this. Its good, humiliation is a wonderful teacher. It motivates you to get more accomplished, and it teaches you to pick and choose your fights. We have all had our share of losses, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Most shocking loss i had was a Focus hatchback. It was in my 86 Sport Coupe 305. Not fast by any standards. Got my *** whooped, i was pissed. Ah, best time in that car was like 15.9. Had a 2.73 open rear, good tranny, stock converter, full exhaust, tuned the cqjet. Most expected losses, a twin turbo Supra, and a Mercedes AMG V6 Kompressor. Those where in my 91 w/a L98. Best time was a 13.8. Know what your car can do, and dont race someone on pride. You set yourself up for disapointment.

this is too funny, but cmon not for nothing but most guys that have only own camaros some times feel like this cars are super cars. dont get me wrong i love my maro even been a POS and all but a while back am coming home from work late at night and at the light this nice mint 3rd gen pulls up it most have been a 91/92 Z28, now i was driving at that time a 2006 Altima SE-R and i was staring...maybe to hard at the maro. i guess he didnt like it and starts to ram his engine (sound it great) like he had a beast under that hood! but i guess all he saw was a grocery getter, but i was like ok why not...when the light turn green we when for it....i left him so far behind i thought he was just messing with me but here he comes like 2 miles later again to try now i had already slow down some what and he fly's by me giving me the finger...i was like what!!!! now that pissed me off so again, i go for it...i quickly catch up and pass him and i trow my hazzard lights on and out of no where a cop pulls out, well to make a short story long lol the cop when for the slower car i jumped on the hwy and he got pulled over.

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

I think it would be funny to get an iron duke camaro or an earlier V6 camaro with a stick and everytime I pull up to another sports car try to race them. Have you guys heard of those systems you can put on your car that can make it sound like Viper or corvette. Put one of those on it so they think its a V8 and then race them. When you pull up to the next light and their laughing you can laugh back saying "Why you laughing it only an inline 4 or V6".

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

This is why I choose my battles, I do not like getting pwned by tiny little gas savers. I've only been beat by a WS6 and another IROC. I like my 350 but theres too much humiliation on the line when your racing cars like corollas and aveos, I let them hear the roar of my v8 but dont give them the satisfaction of a race.

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

why? its fine to lose...those cars can be faster then a third gen..by spending less money less parts and already come stock with lots of hp unlike third gens...dont get me wrong i drive a third gen too..but i also have a honda hatchback thats fast as hell..

to be honest, i dont think the average (non camaro guy) can't tell the differance between the v6 and the v8 camaros. i have them both, and so many people try to race my 92 rs 3.1, and it drives me NUTSSS! ...BUT for ***** and giggles, i have just went ahead and raced it lol. but i think for all of us who happen to have a stock v6 camaro or firebird, should put a damn sticker on it that says "ITS NOT A V8, SO DONT BE PROUD OF BEATING IT" i bet so many people have raced a v6 car thinking it was a v8, and then got all confident about beating v8's...until they actually race one hahahah

i have a 2.8 with some nice exhaust on it just to trick people. whenever someone wants to race me i just rev it up for them and when they fly off the line i just drive normally. (i dont enjoy embarrassing myself)

Re: Just lost to a Chevy Aveo.

I dont know much about power to weight in 2.8 firebird but my first car or should i say truck was a 91 s-10 with the dreaded 2.8 and i now know it was stupid and a waste of money but i worked that darn truck out as much as i could and i killed alot of car cars and it put a lot of cars to shame. so ill tell you i know personally anything is posible with time and money. and i respect skyset for posting this
