1988 camaro 454 m5 speed vs 1979 elcamino 454 a4
what do you guys think? i mean here illl explain some more.
-my car, its a 1988 camaro was originally a 305 5 speed car. i bought a stock rebuilt 454 out of a 1979 1 ton truck. still remains stock in my car. besides headers and 3 inch glasspacks w/dumps. i mated it to the t5 with a lightweight aluminum flywheel and an hd clutch good to about 350 hp. it has 4 wheel dick brakes, ws6 sway bars, manual steering and the rear end is a borg warner 9 bolt posi but its a 2.77 i believe. i think thats about it for my car. btw i dont power shift it to hard because that transmission isnt gonna hold up too long doin that.
-his car originally a 1979 elcamino with the 3.3 v6 200r a4. it was pretty much a rolling resto but it looks nice. his 454 was out of a 1983 1 ton truck. It is still stock as well, trans is a 350 turbo with the shift improver. he also has a stock 2.73 1 tire fire 10 bolt with a very tall bfg, he says they rub when his air shocks are the way down.
well wat do you guys think? i know i have him beat weight wise and the 5 speed i would think would have a better set of ratios than that 3 speed hes got? plus he'll spin way more with out that posi?
thanks alot!!

You should have him by 1 to 2 car lengths. If Im not mistaken I believe the 79 and 83 454`s pushed about 230 HP.

If power is around the same and you can drive decently you can beat him.
He's heavier, with higher gearing, open diff and less weight over the rear end. His tall tires and higher gearing will help him a bit with traction but you should still rip him off the line.
You should beat him but in a manual vs XXX race it comes down to the driver of the manual car before any other factors.

i mean id say i was a relatively good stick driver lol. i mean if you asked my friends theyd tell i was the best out of all of them. thanks guys i appreciate it. wat do you think if we both ran slicks too? but it would be from a roll at that point. maybe 20-40 roll somewhere in between

Judging that power output is the same, slicks will help you even more. He will still one wheel peel if he stomps it with slicks while you will take off even harder.
From a roll you should eat him alive if you leave from your power band.
