I think the GTO will take you by quite a bit.

Specs on the cam would be very helpful.

Re: iroc vs 06 gto

Well its an opinion but those new GTO's are buttass ugly. THe dodge charger and the GTO were the two worst retro's done.

Re: iroc vs 06 gto

Was the GTO even supposed to be retro looking? I mean, it's pretty obvious it's not. It's just a rebadged Holden, and to be honest, I hate Pontiacs (besides the firebirds, of course) but man, I would take a new GTO. I've seen some really fast ones, too.

Anyway, you're probably going to get beat. But it's always fun to try!

Re: iroc vs 06 gto

thats a stupid thing to say, how could you hate pontiacs? Its history with speaks for itself, it has one of the best reputations of any GM division. Its stands on its own merits. If there was no pontiac we would all have to drive those ugly freking camaros

Re: iroc vs 06 gto

We have no idea on the specs of the cam, compression, and people are saying GTO will take this?

If that cam is half decent, it will destroy a GTO in stock form. They are not that quick, mid 13's is quite common. RPM air gap intake and vortec heads on a fresh 350 are good for mid 12's if that cam is decent sized.

I don't like pontiac styling on anything past the 70's. Like all the 90's grand prix's and what not? I really dislike them. Trans am/firebirds have always looked cool, if a little 'attention grabbing', but that's still my opinion. I wouldn't call it stupid.

I don't know, I have a soft spot for the Firebird's little brother, the Fiero.

Re: iroc vs 06 gto

like I said my dad has one of the new 6.0 GTOs... even he thinks its butt ugly

but 400+ hp, tremec 6 speed, red leather, and the ugliness has its perks 1. they were desperate to sell them and he got a great price, total sales flop 2. cops dont notice them the way they notice something "obvious" like a camaro or challenger.. i got pretty good mileage with it too

If he can drive stick it will move out. A mild L98 with gears/exhaust is a high 13 sec car, so vortec motor with better intake and bigger cam is gonna move much better. My buddy had the same motor listed above but with stock LT1 cam and he ran 13.5's at 99-100mph in a 83 short bed full size pickup. That was a 300whp truck and I know for a fact a 330whp car I tuned went 12.2's at 112. 300whp is mid 12's all day long.

I know bolt on L98's can give a 06 GTO a run for their money from a dig. I've raced one and got pulled by an 05-06 LS2 car, but thats before I had the stealth ram intake I believe...I cant remember, i'll have to find the post. That was many years back, but I held my own for alittle while. I got through most of second before he passed me.

18 degrees at idle? I mean that's not a cardinal sin or anything but i'd figure 10-12 for base timing, with an advance to the mid 30's. but okay. so he won from a stop

I figured that combo would pull a goat.... dig is traction based, that doesnt really tell much on the street... but the roll will show the more powerful car

Mine is at 38 at idle and 38 at 7,000 rpm lol Bigger cam usually likes more base timing.

My buddy's TPI based EFI system with stealth ram intake ran 29-30 deg at idle with his big cam. Idle was pretty smooth for what it was. big cams need advance to stay alive

What you probably are thinking about is base reference timing on EFI cars with the EST line disconnected. Factory TPI cars are 6 deg base and most guys set it to 10-12 with mods. Once you plug that EST back in however, you will find that a factory car idles around 20 deg and most street/strip builds tend to be in the 24-30 deg range. More timing with proper air fuel usually gives stable idle and highest vacuum for brakes and such.

Im actually more thinking of carb's because I have way more experience with them. but I get what your saying and my camaro does jump to 15 when set to 0 with the EST disconnected
