Got smoked by an STi and im glad...so far
This just happened tonight. I lined up next to a nice looking Subaru Sti at the last stoplight leaving town. I launched my car with about a 60% effort because i didn't know if he was going to play or not. (i didn't want to look stupid racing someone that was just driving). I got about 1.5 cars in front and let off because he didn't launch it like an AWD should. The moment i lifted he punched it and was immediatly 1 car in front. I got back into it, and he slowly pulled another length and i realized i wasn't pulling him so i lifted around 70. He kept it to the boards and got about 7 car lengths before the blueerrys and cherrys lit up in my rearview. I pulled over and the cop went around me after him. Im not sure where the cop came from or what he saw. the subaru had to be doing 90+ and i hope the cop didn't see the whole thing.. The cop was directly behind me as i pulled over and easily got my plates "2quik4u". Im sure he thinks i was involved. I feel bad for instigating the whole thing. He smoked me and got busted. I wasn't running the bottle, but i think it would be a good race if we both were comitted from a dig. Im guessing it was a high 12 second car. I hope he just got a warning. I will update if i get a visit from the popo.

Haha thats epic. Even in a full on race no one should get mad, those WRX STIs are beasts. Buy one and drop a hundred grand into the engine, suspension, and a roll cage and they can easily smoke Dodge Vipers and give a good Ferrari a run for its money, then blow them away too. I dont remember which show I seen on the Speed channel but thats where my info comes from. I dont know about Wisconsin but in Cali cops think any Japanese car with loud exhaust driving fast are street racers with illegal mods

That is awesome! So did you turn around and drive off as the cop past you to chase the other car? LOL He can't ticket you if he didn't tape it.

yeah, i watched the sheriff pull him over on the exit ramp.. i waited a few moments and slowly went the other way. I was expecting cops waiting for me at home. Im hoping that he just saw the sti go by way too fast, and he hit the cherries when i was at a legal speed. Its weird how slow my car feels when another car slowly pulls away. Humble pie for me!

... You could drop $100k into just about anything and be able to beat a Viper or Ferrari...

Not too likely. He'd be able to fight it anyway.

DizzTransAm, there is a need for about 100K, that show on the SPEED Channel, that STI was modified, custom made suspension, custom fiberglass and carbon fiber body parts, full roll cage, the interior was stripped, the engine was heavily modified, full race tires, custom drivetrain, this STI was pretty much a low budget race car, only the frame and some body panels were still stock. Then they did lap times vs. a Dodge viper, and.. maybe not an Enzo, but still one of the better Ferraris.

talked to my cop buddy and im in the clear. the sheriff just saw him speeding because i let off well before he saw it. They aren't stupid though and will be keeping an eye on me. no warnings i guess. After replaying it in my mind i think he would have got me by a length or two if i wasn't running the bottle. I wsould have smoked him good with the juice.. Re: Got smoked by an STi and im glad...so far
The only STIs I think look good are the late 90's ones. The original STI rally car was hot, and thats why they are popular now. My Z28 dont look as good as 2QUIK4U's, I got clocked doing 77 in a 55 passing an 18 wheeler in January :/ and strait up wrote me one.. then pulled me over again after I took off to make me re sign the ticket cus it didnt match with my signature from 5 years ago :/

If I put 100k into a honda it'd run 5 seconds in the 1/4. But wouldnt be streetable. So are we trying to be streetable and run as fast as possible to keep up with the ferrari or what? haha.

Re: Got smoked by an STi and im glad...so far
Its the geometry of that particular car, very low center of gravity, all wheel drive near 50/50 weight distribution, the car is a beast. Lots of room for usable improvement. I dont think 100K in a honda is gonna do it unless it was a NSX or maybe, just maybe one of those S2000s. It will take more than 100K to turn most American cars into something close to a NASCAR to try and hang with an Enzo Ferrari!

I'm probably wasting my breath here, but here goes anyways...
If you're talking about top speed, handling, etc, it's not going to take near $100,000 to top a Ferrari, DB9, Viper, etc.... A Subaru STi wouldn't be my choice of a base platform either...Pretty much anything that isn't front wheel drive and has decent aerodynamics and a good suspension platform to start from, would be a good candidate. A 3rd gen, 4th gen, base model Corvette, Mustang, S2000, 350Z, etc, would all be good candidates. In every single case you could drop a big cube LSx motor in it and leave the Ferrari in the dust in the acceleration and top speed competition with the right gearing....
As for the original poster, I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. They can easily mail you a ticket if they have your plate number. And if I were you, I wouldn't fight it if they did that, you even went so far as to post it on the internet, you can't take it back now.

not too worried about it. The cop didn't observe me racing from where he was. The Sti guy thought he was still racing even though i let off way back there. Even though i lost, I won. Im now going to spend the cash for a remote bottle opener so i will be ready.

Give me 30,000 dollars just for a powerplant in my third gen and I'll blow anything that lines up to me in the dust. F3 procharged 6.0 lsx doesn't give too many other cars a chance

Nice, Trav! Makes me think about the time that Becker saw me laying down 3 gears in that 87 mustang that I was test driving back in the day.... I was at the light in front of the Lucky7.

Yeah Mike, the cops are actually pretty cool now. Becker always gave me greif for taillight covers, exhaust, stereo, etc... He had a hard-on for cool cars. The cops are mostly my age and younger now. They have loud pipes on their trucks, harleys etc. They only get pissed when you do something idiotic.... (like i did). Do you still have the Mitzu Evo??

Re: Got smoked by an STi and im glad...so far
This similar thing happend to me lol. I was racing my buddy, and we went from a 65 mph roll. I absolutely killed him, and he slowed up at around 90mph. I had no clue why cuz we usally just keep going, but I found out later it was cuz he passed an undercover cop. Long story short, he clocked me at 125mph but since my friend was goin so slow compared to me he didnt think we were racing. The cop was cool and hit me with only a $500 speeding ticket, instead of the reckless driving he could have given me for 60miles over the limit (Impounding my car and taking me to jail). It helps when cops are camaro/muscle car fans
