82 FireBird Vrs 72 Nova!

Ok I ran into an old buddy from highschool and of course he still has his sweet A** 72 nova "show quality". Well he wants to race my firebird.
here are the specs.
low mileage 82FB-lg4 comp 250H cam 3 inch exhaust highflow muffler no cat.accel distributor tweeked qjet, open element air filter, no computer/emmisions equiptment, now has turbo 350 and 2:73 gears pull's to 5grand very well in 1st and 2nd, very clean launches.

72nova-355 backed by turbo350 2500 stall, edelbrock 600cfm carb, some chrome intake, around 114@.50 cam, K&N exstream setup with cowl hood, flat top pistons, "No head work" msd distributor, 6al ignition, dual exhaust with headdres, "fNord" 9ich rear with something? 4.11 probably and he still doesnt use a thermostat after 2 years .

Last time we raced I was in my truck 400hp SBC with 3:73 and munncie 3speed on the tree and I smoked him bad He had the same setup but with the factory rearend with 3:42's I think. He was only able to pull 4100 rpm per gear except 3rd so Im thinking he will have me beat most of the way with his new gears but I might be able to catch him on the top with my deep gears.
Well what do you guys think? Were going to race next weekend if everthing goes well.

Those novas are fast. My dad owns a '68 Nova with the stock 327 and the same mods listed above, except he has a 2.73 rear end and he has the stock cam in it. The car easily pulls 14.2@104mph on street tires in the 1/4. Novas are light cars.

68 with a 327 thas the 350hp one as far as my reasearch shows, must be a sweet car though. If my friend had a 327 I would be weary, but I really think shallow gears will be his downfall at the end, well I hope so.

Overwheling responces here
Oh well.
It went down this afternoon, we measured up a qurter mile on a semi abandoned road and painted some lines "nice to have for the future". Well I took him of the line, he caught up quickly. He was there for all 2 shifts but evertime he shifted I gained a good 2 feet, when I shifted I lost 1ft. It was a fairly equal race I won by about a foot in the quarter mile but the race continued for about a 1/2 mile where he passed me. Afterward he told me that his car was turning near 5700rpm in third and I was stuck up against the 4500 from about 10 feet from the qm mark. So not a bad day considering that an sorry lg4 beat a monster 350 in a BadA** muscle car. Now if I can just get some money to insure my camaro then i will slaughter him completly.

Wow, I long since abandoned this post, dident expect any more reply's.
Thanks guys. Update Since the race my friemd purchased a 454 and is geting some major work going for a 502. Funny though, by the time he's finished with the install I'll have the driveshaft for my camaro. I'll feel sory for him if he gets it all done and my 350hp camaro walks all over the BB.
Thanks again SSC

If he gets a mild 454, or a 502, if he get's it too hook, he's got ya.
Even stock 454's with a mild cam change are torque monsters, but if he sit's and spins, you'll get him. He'll have to drive it now.
