whats the deal?

Ok, I don't get it. Do any of you guys experience the same thing i do while driving my Firebird? People are getting really aggressive with me while on the road. Sometimes when i am first at a redlight, the person beside me either tries to race me or thinks i am racing them.LOL I mean does the "average driver" think that just because their car is newer that it supposed to beat a thirdgen?I think people are blinded and confused by technology. I mean, my car is alright,it is in Lt1 territory with a 2.73 gear. I have been experiencing a lot of aggressiveness from other drivers. It seems like it gets worse as the years go on. Oh, well, I have only lost 2 races. 01' modded Mustang gt, 04' Gto. That is it,and it wasn't by much. So, any one else here get disrespect in their Pontiac?

They're the only 2 cars you've lost to? You must be running Hon-duhs all day long.

Yeah, I get it all of the time, I took the GTA out for the first time in about 2 months and some idiots were trying stuff. Luckily I don't have to deal with it much in the GTP.

Re: whats the deal?

I very rarely get that. Most people leave my thirdgen alone. Could be the hood or how it idles who knows but very few want to race. As for newer cars maybe it is because most new cars are faster than a 305 thirdgen and the V6s can probably cannot even keep up with a new manual civic. Besides one idiot in an older accord I have not had many issues with my bird.

I had to put a crossfire to shame once and I took down a stock SI but it was because he was being a dick about letting me merge. Then again I have been spanked by a 1990 1.8L turbo civic that ran 12s. For the most part the only people who give me dirty looks on the road are prius drivers.

When I was younger I thought a lot of people wanted to race but as I am getting older I think the real problem was just the nut behind thew wheel.

I know and your GTA would destroy your GTP. Even stock ithe GTA would give it a good run.

Could be the area i live in too. Lots of Bmw's, Lexus, and "green cars". LOL
I actually got into a race with a guy in a 98' Bmw 540i v8. He gave me a hell of a run! Side by side. We pulled over later and talked, but most of the time it is drivers that are looking at my car either shaking their heads or laughing. Then they attempt to pass me or merge in front of me. It's funny tho, i don't get too many Honduhs with the fart cannons trying anything or any one with a decent sports car trying to race me. It's all mainly your "everyday driver" that thinks my car is slow.

Re: whats the deal?

I've only been messed with a few times in my GTA in the past 2 years and haven't lost one yet (mustang GT, 350Z, cobalt SS, FWD monte SS V8). Not many want anything to do with racing me, and now that the hood is on it they definitely seem to keep their distance lol.

Re: whats the deal?

Never got it with the old 92 RS. With the few times I had the 86 out most stayed away since it was loud.

Re: whats the deal?

I can relate to this! The day I bought my car and was driving it home from the old owners house, without even having plates on it, I was at a stoplight and this idiot in a rusty Civic with an unpainted body kit pulls up next to me at a light and starts furiously redlining his car. I just laughed. My car wasn't even plated so I wasn't about to race him.

But just in average, I feel the same way. Lots of people trying to challenge my car. Honestly, I get a kick out of it. When I raced my friend who's got a 350Z while merging onto a highway I destroyed him, the look on his face was priceless. Also love the looks I get when I give it a little gas from a stop and my tires end up breaking loose on the 1-2 shift. My cars got enough mods to run with alot of crap I encounter on the road. lol.
