why did l win?
l've got a 1990 IROC Z with 70,000 on it, it has a 305 TPI, 2.73 stock gears, siamesed runners, toyo proxes H4 street tires, dynomax exhaust system. l raced one of my good friends whose got a 1990 mustang LX convertible (50,000 miles) with a bone stock 302- now I don't know a lot about these mustangs, but I beat him pretty bad, l'd say a car length and a half or more. I seriously doubt the runners and exhaust did that much or did they? I always thought the stock stangs were supposed to beat the camaros pretty bad, mines fairly stock but I smashed him pretty bad whats the deal?

Don't be surprized. You would have beaten him stock vs. stock. Mustangs kept on getting slower in the 90's as 305TPIs kept getting faster. Also a convertable stang has an extra 400lbs.
Stock 5.0 were pretty even mached up w/TPI F-bodies(depending on years and motors). What makes 5.0s such a Fear, is that it's easier and cheaper, and I do stress CHEAPER, to get a 5.0 Stang to do crazy, whacky stuff. A Ford 302 w/a 4" stroke is a "sick" motor if properly done-up.

Yea a convertible automatic 5.0 is the slowest of the 5.0's. The automatic tranny weighs more than the standard, and the convertible optin adds alot of weight due to the X-brace under the car, and other frame stiffening stuff. Now the desireable model (if there is such a thing) to have would be a manual LX (the hatchbach weighs more than the trunk version) without ground effects. This would be the lightest model made.
