Caprice 9C1 vs Camaro
Caprice 9C1 vs Camaro
Im thinking of getting a Caprice 9C1. I hear and see these cars gunning past my house and on the highways. I know they have a similar engine to the Corvette, exept they make under 300 hp. I would like to know how these cars compare to a thirdgen Camaro in terms of speed.

The LT1 powered ones are pretty quick. Mid to low 15s are the norm at around 91-93mph. A friend of mine just picked up a '94 9C1. Completely stock with 3.08 gears and bad traction-non limited slip, he ran a 15.7@90 in hot weather. Plus the car had some tranny problems and would start in 2cd then go to 1st, so it deffinatly would have gone 15.4 or better on a good night. All stock down to the air-filter.
Very cool cars, the 9C1s handle very well, little body roll, tight steering, and very roomy. I want one too. But to pick it over a 3rd gen is a different story.

'88 RS (originally 2.8)
-350, .040 over, vette alum. L98s, stock tpi.
-305 injectors & chip
-TES headers & edelbrock cat back
-3.73 gears, 700r4.
Best with 2.8-17.4@77mph
Best with 305-15.0@93mph
Best with 356-13.7@101mph
on a 2.050 60 ft.
(Damn the 2.8!)

I already have a thirdgen but I need something with more room and better in bad weather than my Camaro. Also need something pretty fast and for under $3000 a Caprice is a good choice for me.

If that's the case then that lead sled is the car for you. Everything about that car is big: room, engine, gas bill. I think that's the only down side to the Caprice. They really like to suck up fuel. As far as handling in the snow, I'd be concerned and definately stick with the open diff in the snow. The good thing is that there is almost zero possiblity of you getting hurt if it does slid off the road. That thing is a tank.
I need another car mainly because my Camaro wont pass inspection the next time around. Also my Camaros heat/ac/defroster fan isnt working, so when the cold comes back it'll be good. Plus my car SUCKS in the rain. It needs a good restoration, and I cant buy anything thats not a Chevy.

I know a guy just like you except he's obsessed with Monte's. Nothing but Bow-ties at his house. He been rolling in a Caprice since he sent his SS to get painted.
Unfortunately I was raised in a Ford family. My brother and I are the only one's that own GM's.
