Burnouts in a Manual..Help!

Hey there everyone!

My friend just got a 1999 Firebird Formula with a six-speed manual. He wants to know how to burnout in the manual(mainly like a brakestand..he wants it to stay in place or move slowly foward). Should he pop the clutch then quickly hit the brake? Or should he just put his e-brake on? This is the only reason I do not like manual transmission cars, although they are faster.

I don't know if you can even power break in a standard... but if you put the e-brake on you'll only be locking up the driving wheels, so DO NOT DO THAT! I'm sure somebody has an answer to the other part of your question...

I could'nt believe it when I saw that Jeff Gordan did'nt know how to do a burn out in his Nascar after a race victory early this year. Someone told him how to do it for his next victory and did a good job.

All you have to do is drop the clutch at 4000RPM, hit the brakes the same time you stomp the gas to the floor. The emergency brake won't keep the FRONT wheels from moving while doing a burnout.(thats a front wheel drive burnout thing). If you want to creep forward a little just ease up on the brakes.

Rev the motor, pop the clutch and hold on the accelerator and brake. Easily done.

email me, i'll send you a video of me doin a standstill with my manual. carefull though when you hit the brakes and if the car comes to a stop, the revs might get too high. stay on the brake but adjust the gas to keep it from overreving, you could hurt your trans if you do. and squeez the brakes just enough to stop and hold the car, dont stand on them as hard as you can.

I used to practice in the rain with my 5-speed, before I got good enough to do it on dry pavement. The left foot braking thing makes it a little hard to figure out how much pressure to put on the pedal.

Just get a big, sharp knife, walk around to the rear of your car, and scrape all of the tread off of your rear tires. It's just as effective and you don't have to worry about hurting the rest of your car.

Or, get a set of crap tires (like I did) and use them instead.

Heh, well here is my story. I get this $500 dollar clutch "centerforce I" with pressure plate and throw out bearing. So I take her easy for 500 miles and about 2 months later my friends are like do a burnout. I didn't know how so my friend in his v4 ranger 5spd showed me how. Pretty easy I said. So I hop in mine and light em really good. I mean the block was smokey. I hit first and slammed 2nd and once I hit 2nd smoke started pouring. Well I tried to do it once more later that nite and my clutch blew. I wouldn't recommend doing it, especially in a T-56 because I'm sure the reprocussions would be a lot more than $500. Plus you have the chance of the flywheel spinning out of the bellhousing and coming through the floor boards cutting your foot off. I know a guy that races his 9 second 69 RS/SS at Route 66 out here and he said he never seen a clutch like mine. It really puts wear on them. And if you DO decide to do it, give it a nice 2 hour break before you beat on it. I won't do one again, when someone asks you to lightem up just dump the clutch, he should be able to get a lot of smoke from doing that, my buddies Cobra could rip 1st and get some smoke but he has nowhere near the hp or torque your friends Formula has. I say don't do it. I like my feet and plan to keep them for quite some time.

Can any of you really use your left foot on the brake? I find that if I ever use my left for the brake the car comes skidding to a stop... guess it gets more exercise lol.

GO BUY LINE LOCK FROM A PERFORMANCE SHOP!!!! Unless you want to look like a moron when you kill the motor or worse blow something up. Line lock is a solenoid that holds ONLY your front brakes. Jeese, I think these guy are trying to make you hurt your car?! Oh yeah it usually cost around 90 bucks and helps if your ever trying to stage your car at the track..

What about going to the junk yard and getting a temporary spare..(those little ones that you see in piles at the yards) put it on the drive wheel(s) makes it easier to do burnouts..less tire...(width wise)easier to spin no ??
