89 camaro vs 81 camaro

I am prepping up for a show down with a cross town rival at irwindale, His car: 81 camaro 355 crappy smog heads, headers, 308 gears, posi, edelbrock intake, stock stall speed, 700R4, mild cam, edelbrock 600 carb, pepper tree mechanic tuned by ear. My car 89 Rally sport: 305 tbi Tpi 081 heads, comp cam springs, 97 camaro LT1 camshaft, edelbrock tbi intake, edelbrock headers, 3 inch american thunder exhaust, MSD ignition, bored tbi unit 350 injector's with custom harris chip tune( by brian harris whom i sent my data logging too, and he dialed in my setup) 3.73's posi, 5 speed trans, UMI rear suspension, composite hood, aluminum: driveshaft, and waterpump, dual snorkal ho air cleaner with a k&N, Hays street strip clutch. I have the weight advantage(3,034 curb weight)3,217 with driver, i put more power to the ground, plus im a really good driver that can stall my car to 3500 rpm and feather out my clutch with little wheel spin. Do i stand a chance and should i stand my ground or run like a coward lol His car is a total pig 3,600 pounds and 3,750 with driver!

Re: 89 camaro vs 81 camaro

If you put down more power AND have the weight advantage, I don't see the problem here.

Sadly, it is a very rare occurrence for most races here to actually happen.

Very true indeed....this section of the site has turned into a bunch of boring drama. Also alot of people just get all whiney and post youtube worthy comments about other people.

Re: 89 camaro vs 81 camaro

We raced on new years day and he beat me but not by much, i was on his rear bumper by the 1320 mark. I blew him off the line and kept a solid car length until i hit third and he pulled on me hard and i was on his bumper at the end!!! He had a ace under his sleeve, which was a comp cams extreme energy camshaft and a set of 305 heads! Time to get a 350 lol

Re: 89 camaro vs 81 camaro

I nailed all of my gears on all 4 races and he consistently beat me, his car sounded healthy! Judging by the way his car pulled on me after i hit third gear makes me think that his new package works better than mine lol I have suspician that he may have changed the engine or used nitrous because he did not want to pop his hood open.

Hmm, Sounds fishy. If he has 305 heads on it I would think the engine would have ran out of breath before you even hit third. I'm guessing he has a bit more motor then he is telling you, sounds like a set up to me.

Mark.

I was just thinking that too. I have built a 350 with 305 heads and it was all bottom end power. Maybe the 81 spun hard for the first two gears?

Re: 89 camaro vs 81 camaro

He did spin hard in first, but for him to catch me in third after getting close to the 1320 mark makes me think he was using nitrous. My car is pretty fast because i have taken out plenty of cars with similiar mods and some tpi's. I was whooping on him even when he was not spinning, but he catches me no problem! i'm gonna have to teach him a lesson by going with a 350 or tell him to get off his baby bottle. I know he is too scared to run all motor cause he knows i have the better power to weight ratio

Re: 89 camaro vs 81 camaro

Back in the day I had a friend with an 80 camaro with a 350 and ported 305 heads with 2.02 intakes and ran low 13's all day on a true street radial. Not to shabby for a DD in 1989
