I could take a 91 305 z conv, right?

this morning on the way to college I got behind a 91 305 z28 convertible. I could see that the exhaust was stock. I couldn't race him because of construction. I parked next to him at school. I asked him if he had a 5 liter, and he says 'no', so I say "wow a 350 conv." and he says no its the other v8. and I say "305" and he replies yes. I could see it was an auto and clearly the driver had no idea how to handle it, but my question is that if we were equal drivers who would win?

Sorry to tell you but he wil likely beat you if he launches right. You don't have that many mods and he has clsoe to 40HP/50lb ft on you plus you have all the heavy stereo stuff in the back.

I'm guessing with a good driver that car could go 15.0-15.3 and you still have a bit to go to get to that.

Gonna agree with that, if you lighten your up by taking all your stereo stuff out and a lot of other stuff, you might have a shot, but i still think he has you either way.

I think with headers you might stand a better chance, you've probably got 10-15 Hp in mods... ignition doesn't do anything to stock enines, filters are just preference and chips just maximize power thats already there.
Headers will get you another 15 likely and more if accompanied by apropriate mods... anyhow, you're probably at about 180 Hp and he should have 205 Hp Stock... equal drivers gives him the win, but if he just keeps in in drive and burns out at the light. yeah you might do it... What is evident is that he has no idea how his car works or what it is exactly, he just has two numbers in his head: V8 Chevy = 305 and V8 Ford = 5.0.

according to muscle car review (3/92) the 305 z runs a 15.9 @ 86. thats not even the conv. which is heavier. I'm just gonna have to smoke him to prove myself, I've already got a 91 z 305 t top under my belt, although he only has OD and D (he put a stop in because the shifter was crappy) the tranny even had a shift kit.

Well, a 91 Z has 205 horsepower/285 ft-lbs of torque, which is only 35 more horsepower/30 ft-lbs than what you have stock. Vert's (fully loaded) can weigh about 3800 lbs. Really, all it has to do with now is driver skill. I think both of you will break even.

It's uncanny how similar TBIs and TPIs are on launch, but theoretically, if you were equal weighing, the TPI with more power would take you.
