Me VS 95 Mustang GT with some bolt ons..
Guy at school has a 95 Mustang GT with bad valve seals (blue smoke alot).. It's got side exhaust, no cats, cold air intake, off the shelf chip, and the only really decent bolton is his 3.73 gears. He ran a best of 14.8.. This is an automatic by the way..
My car has 305 TBI motor, 3.73 gears, Posi, LT1 cam, Edelbrock aluminum intake, Edelbrock headers, 3" cat, 3" catback, ajustable fuel pressure regulator, Accel Digital Ignition with 6 degrees of advance, strong tranny (with a hurst dual gate shifter), open element K&N, eibach lowering kit, boxed LCA's, LCA relocation brackets.
Most of the stuff I've beaten has been in the 200-240 HP range, haven't really tried anything above that.. He THINKS he's at 260, but I'm thinking more around 230..

I'd say you've got a chance, and i agree no WAY he's making 260 HP with just that stuff, and if he's got a whipped motor he is probably making even less.

If he is still a 5.0 then he is making maybe 230hp but that is being generous, if he is a 4.6L I don't remember if the 4.6 jumped to 260 or if it stayed an anemic 215 or so until 97 or 98??? but im not sure you could always check mustang boards to find out

Stock 5.0 = 225 hp
side exhaust = - 5 hp
cold air = + 5 hp
chip = + 0 hp
7 years of wear and tear = - 10 hp
Total = 215 hp in a 3400 lb. car by my math
The switch to the 4.6L came in 1996, they made 215 hp until 1998 when they were bumped up to 235 hp, and then in 1999 they were bumped again to 260 hp.

The 94-95 5.0 Mustangs had 215 horsepower originally, and they were near 3550 lbs. Plus they had 285 ft-lbs of torque.
I don't see how all side exhaust systems lose power, take for instance the Cobra R, those have killer side exhausts!
In 1996-97 They had 215 horsepower, and they made the increase of 10 in 98 with 225 horsepower.

I think it will be close...but I'd say youd win IMO...BTW how do you like your hurst dual gate shifter? I love the look of those

Just a little update, the guy won't race me. He's being a pansy.. It rained a couple days here, yesterday it was dry.. He was like "Oh I would but i washed my car and I don't want to get it dirty..".. Now he's sayin "Well I'm gettin a blower put on soon so I'll race you then"... This guy just can't stand to lose.. He raced another guy with an 89 convertible and BARELY won (the guy in the vert had a 300LB passenger).. He now says "oh i killed that car".. Well Yeah, i bet he'd beat me too if I were lugging around a 300LB passenger next to me.. He won't race the other kid now because he says he already won...
He's been beating on that car ever since he got it and now he is getting leaky seals I think..

Yeah, i know plenty of guys that exaggerate their victories. I also know a lot of guys with mustangs (one '95 GT stock and one '92 5.0L with a flowmaster muffler) and those cars are quite fast. I raced the stock '95 GT and pulled him up to about 40 mph until he began to smoke me. My car did have some minor problems like a slipping clutch and other small things but he would have smoked me no matter what. Mustangs third gears are their strongest gear and i only stayed with him until his second gear. But with ur mods and his car not running tip top u could have a very decent chance. And the fact that he won't race means he knows that. So just call him a pansy until he will race u and show him that u r running with him.

Side exhaust = just another restriction in airflow. I don't know of a single side exhaust system on the market for the Mustangs that free's up any horsepower.
