first a few questions..
1. why pair a rat with a six speed? a rat weighs a bit more than a small block and requires new springs, will make te weight balnce biased more to the ffront and will decrease handling. if you want a drag car you shouldn't use the 6 spd, its not consistent enough and it doesn't have the torque rating of a th400 auto
2. Why a rat? why not just a fast burn 385, or if you do pull a rat, put in the ZL1, re released by gm this year an aluminum 427 that weighs like 50 pounds more than a standard small block.
and now for the comments, its not going to be easy if you do put in the big block, gonna be a lot of fabricating necessary, plus youll never pass emissions, and your only real choice besides carb is holley commander efi, which wouldn't be my choice. the t56 six speed would be great for autocross, but if you plan on a big block you better beef the 6 spd up. the zo6 is rated aat 500 lb-ft, but if you build a decent 427 youll pull that easy. the tripower zl1 vettes in 69 were rated at 420 horse, but it was aactually along the lines of 600 horse and 590 lb-ft torque. considering it was basically a high compression solid lifter aluminum big block with a six pack, it shouldn't be too hard to make tht with a big block. If you plan on less than 500 lb-ft torque, then why a big block? small blocks cn mae in that vicinity of power ll day long with or without a power adder, not to mention itll be easier to drop in another small block, plus itll probably be cheaper and the 6 spd will be more fulfilling and of more use. all in all, its possible, and a lot of work, with little more benefit, but it'd definately raise a few eyebrows t street matchups,
" what you got?"
"turbo vtec on juice. you runnin 350 or 305?"
"427 all aluminum."
"da*n, shoulda asked before i dropped 100 bucks on the race"

well, i'm not really lookin for a drag car, and i'm not lookin for an autocross...
i want a good all around car, that will certainly be different...
i have only heard of a few big blocks in the 3rd gens. And why not crate? well, I'm not sure, but wouldn't an older motor, rebuilt still be cheaper than crate? and would you rocomend a Munsie? maybe, rockcrusher??? 4spd or 5???
see, i'm not too sure on what i want, i know i want it BIG and different... hahaha...
so, keep the suggestions comin...
thanks guys

Well, I'm doing Chevy 302 V8 for my Formula, plus I am going to use the Tremec TKO 5-speed. That is one of the strongest trannies out there plus it has a 3.27 first gear!
.
I think Brad_Altec has the Motown 427 small block, and without N2O, it put his car in the low tens. That sounds like a motor with lots of potential to be the best at the strip.
I was also thinking the GM crate ZZ430 with a MiniRam. The T-56 six speed would work great with that.
