82 camaro w/ 305 vs 91 civic si w/ mods???
i have a 82 camaro w/ a 305 and there is a ****y guy that thinks his civic is fast and i want to race him but he has some stuff done to his engine but i havent dont anything to mine(bone stock)well here it is- the civic has a header, air intake, k&n air filter, a venom computer, and a super flow muffler. my camaro has nothing but a 305 that runs awesome, and its an auto-matic? who would win in a street race and a highway race?????? and what else could i do to my car to make it accelerate faster and just make it plain faster w/ out having to cut an arm off for it?

Welcome aboard,
What gears does your car have? I'm not too familiar with the early 90's Honda's, but with those mods, I'd say he will at least be even with you.

Kill some rice....welcome aboard!!!
You didn't mention if you had an LG4 or an L69. If you have an L69 (I think they come with automatics...I dunno), you should absolutely wax him.
Nothing wrong with strapping it on and finding out. I mean, if he beats you, so what...make the same mods to your car and you'll surely wax him anyway.

the civil isint all that fast because his "son" has a nissan pulsar(piece of crap)the pulsar raced his dads car( the civic)and raced him and he only lost by a 1/2 car length and a lot of people have beat his pulsar, the pulsar has a venom computer and a super flow muffler and he can almost beat the civic, but like i say the pulsar has never won a race but he still claims he can beat camaros???? so how bad could i beat the civic???????
good point gruveb but I dont think they made an L69 in 82

i really doubt he has an L69 as they did not become popular until about 1984 in the H.O. Z28's. as for the race, an LG4 with 145 horsepower vs a Civic SI with about 140 horsepower mods not included, the camaro will lose. sad to say, but he is probably a stick which gives him the advantage. what gears do you have, 2.73's? horsepower to weight ratio, you are probably about 3600 lbs and the civic hatchbacks are low 2000's. as for the civic dx, that is like comparing a iron duke 4 cylinder camaro to a L98. the si's are the cream of the crop of honda in general. i would say mod then race.

ok, I've been reading up on some ***** magazines from time to time just to learn more about their crap... and from what I've gathered, the headers/exhaust/chip/filter mods in the civic is probably worth about 15-18hp at the wheels AT MOST.
I read those magazines because I'm really curious as to just how effective the mods are on imports.. you can call it, "reading up on the enemy".. the most gain that he's got would be from the filter (roughly around 5-8hp depending on the car).. exhaust is normally worth about 1 or 2 real hp, and the headers are worth the same..
I actually think that it'll be a close race, but he might have you by a little..

Wait don't the 91 Si's have like 80lb-ft of torque? somebody find some numbers, that's what i found just a few minutes ago. I think if the 305 is runnin well and he gets him outta the whole, the 305 will win.
EDIT: that's in a start from 0...i think from a roll 60+ he would win

82 Camaro is closer to 3300-3400 pounds (like 1st gen), but in principle 8 vs 4 you could have him off the line but up high 45+ I think he would take you. power to weight ratio is key, when racing imports. you take 2500lbs of import with 140 horse and you take an extra 800 pounds and that is about a camaro. almost not far but 10 years diff and your stock will do that.
Sorry I think he will win if you stay stock.

but you guys dont understand, his sons car is an 87' nissan pulsar, the car has a venom computer(like his dads-in the civic), a cone air filter, superflow muffler and his car is a 5spd. he raced his cousin in a chevy corsica w/ a v6/2.8 or 3.1 and its an auto matic and the thing is bone stock and he beat him the pulsar by a car length, when the pulsar raced his dad in the civic he lost by 1/2 a car length thats it, and everyone says that his car is a tird(the pulsar) how can i not beat the civic when i think if the civic would race the corsica the corsica would just win or tie him!
You didn't mention if the Civic engine is Vtec or not. This makes a big difference, as those mods won't make the car all that much faster if it is a base engine. Also, regardless of which engine the car has, Honda's need to be driven hard as hell to get max performance, so driver skill is an issue. Just go race him and tell us how badly you whooped his Civic.
In agreement with Dragon there, what kinda civic is it, and what year? Theres a BIG difference between the base ones and the Si.
Ok read over again, if the corsica beat the pulsar and the pulsar beat him, you should totally kill him. This race was after the civics mods right?

Just going to add my 2cents. I own a 92 Civic Si along with a 84 Trans Am HO. the HO killed the Si, both were stock and five speeds. If the 91 you are talking about has around the same power stock + mods, i think he will beat your Camaro. Toss on some headers and catback and you should be able to take him. Off the line the honda is slow but once the rpm's get up there it moves. stock the peak power and torque are at 6000+.
