Who Should Win?
Who Should Win?
A kid in school has recently got his liscense and can't stop talking about his '88 Camaro. The car is nice, but it's a stock 305 with a automatic. Well the race is not with me, it's with a modded Civic. The civic has an AEM intake, exhaust, and was tuned at Manchester Motorsports. Well the kid in the Civic went to the track recently,(Even though the two closes tracks are closed!!!) and I heard that he ran in the 16s. I didn't hear the exact time but with his auto I'm sure it was mid to high 16s. My real question is, who would win between the two? Oh Ya, I've had the Camaro behind me at a stop sign, and let him pull away and get on my bumper, and then hit it. By 70 mph I had at least 5-7 cars on him.

it really depends...depends on what 305 is in the camaro...
I'm gonna go for the civic because the camaro just got his license, i can't see him being a great driver...

I don't know what 305, and I'm sure the kid has no idea. My only guess is that it's a TPI, but I don't know too much about the different engine options. Plus I don't think he shifts the Auto, but sticks it in drive and goes!!
My 305 tpi ran a 15.5 with the car in drive back a few years ago. Everything was stock.
If its a tpi, I go with the camaro. If LG4/L69/LO3, I still go with the camaro but it'll be close. I dont think the experience of the driver will come into play that much, because a 305/auto is pretty easy to launch (almost zero wheelspin).
Let us know who wins

My 88 auto with a 305 ran, at best, an almost embarassing 16.8 at BEST back in july, on a hot humid night w. crappy tires, engine at 230 degrees after the 95 mile drive to the track, a passenger, and no experience (2nd time i'd ever run down a track in my life!)
But excuses aside, theres a lotta kids who think their first V8 car is the fastest thing in the world just becuse its low end makes it feel strong. BUT the civic dosen't sound like much of a rocket either, is it a DX or something?

What model Camaro was it? A friend of mine has an 88 305 Camaro. I think he said it was like an RS model (didn't those come out in '89?). Well, one night he was drinking and let me drive his car home(i was the DD). I dropped him off at his house and used his camaro to drive myself home. Anyway, i was driving along and a civic pulled next to me revving. Anyway to make a long story short, I was BEATEN! I though it was funny and I gave the civic a thumbs up because I see him around all the time.
When I got home, i parked his car and took out my Mustang. It was funny because 5 mins later I pull next to the same civic who looks at me and says "Didn't i just race you in a camaro" to which I smiled and said "Yeah, wanna go again?" Haha..I redeemed myself there.
But anyway, What model civic and camaro we talking about? Is it Si vs. Base 305? or maybe 5.7L IROC vs. DX?

I'm going to say the camaro mainly b/c the Civic is an automatic, either way, it'll be a close race since the camaro is TBI. IMO imports are worthless w/ autos b/c they're such high-reving engines, they need a good clutch drop to get the RPM's up for a decent launch & you can hold it in gear to run through the powerband as well when it's a 5-speed whereas the auto prohibits that for the most part. The Camaro has a decent amount of low-end torque so it should be able to pull the civic fairly well off the line, hopefully it'll hold it's own throughout too. That's my story!

Agreed that the civic is a dog with an auto. The 700r4 has a great 1st gear, so the camaro should take him out of the hole. I think it will be hard for that civic to make up any ground, unless he's got some spray.
I'm possetive the Civic doesn't have any spray, because most kids in school see a car with it and automatically it's the coolest thing. A kid with a Nitroused CRX was talking s***t about his car, and someone suggested he race me. the kid sayed he destroy whatever I brought, till hefound out I was driving my dad's stang for the week. His went 13.67 3 days prior to the supposed race, and If I raced him I would run the 150 shot of nitrous, and see what that CRX is made of. Any way, the kid never showed and me and my friends went home a little angry. Oh Ya the Camaro and Civic aren't going to race, because of problems with both cars!!! I hate when that happens, Oh Well!
look for emblems.. if its a SC it'll be a L03 which
is not that fast (well I think its peppy). I thought they stopped making L69s like in 86 or something so it wont be that. And for the lg4 I thought they also stopped making those in 87. So if I'm right... it would be a L03 or a Lb9. If its a Lb9 its going to get spanked. If its an L03 its going to be close.
