you would be in the 13s no problem with a set of 3.73 gears and posi, but with those gears 13s is gonna be a close call

thats a high 14 as is car and low 14's with gears. 285 horsepower is not a 13 second car for the most part, but if LT1's can do it...

Well I don't have dyno numbers on my car and it is a TPI, 350, compared to your Carb, 355, but I'd figure you have a high 13 second car. The thing that may hold you back is the stock torque convertor and heads.
But work with the timing and carb and you should get 13's easily and may be mid 13's.
With 285 HP you should get into 13's!

Wish I had a 355

Good Luck!

am i not the only one who thinks that these gears are slowing him down as well as the converter. you guys dont realize you need a nicely setup suspension and good traction, as well as gears to run 13's with 285 horsepower.

Lets see...the 4th gens with the LT1, 2.73 gears, and autos run low 14's. I would think that you may be able to do better because I think they are a heavier car. I think the LT1 has 285hp so Id say its a pretty good match. Im going to go with everyone else and say get some gears, because the 4th gen's with 3.23's and autos run 13's .

yah, I was thinking of 3.08's, I want to be able to cruise on the highway.
I think it would be a good match for the LT-1, I dont think they make 392 foot pounds.
Hopefully this coming summer the car will see a set of sportsman 2's and a 274 cam with taller gears and converter.

I have 3.27's and no problem driving highway at all. With stock size tires and a 700r4 it comes out to about 2000rpm @ 60mph. I get 15-18mpg around town, 20+mpg highway.

i am in no way bashing on him, i just dont want him to be dissapointed like i see so many people at the tracks when their "13 second" cars run 14 and even 15's. the reason an lt1 can run 13's is that they have the ability to breathe at much higher rpms. also, 392 ft lbs of torque is incredible, but traction problems could plague your runs so be ware. to insure 13's i would get gears at least. i am only trying to help out, lets all play nice right?
