Launching an automatic...
I see a lot of people asking and answering questions on how to launch a manual. But how about automatic? Is there a good way to launch an automatic, or are we just left with mashing the pedal and goin? Whats the best way to get an automatic off the line?

well i get my best launches by preloading the rpms to about 1200 (anymore and i spin)when the light turns green i mash it , traction isnt really a big problem since i dont really have a pavement pounder , but if traction is an issue the gas has to be feathered off the line until you can hook up

Put your foot on the brake, put the other on the gas. Hold the gas until just before the tires start to break loose. You should notice the back of the car lift slightly. So basicly a brake torque with no tire spinning.
Aight cool, thanks. Just one more thing, sorry for being technical, but do I push the brake all the way in? Do I floor the gas? How exactly should I push in each pedal, and how should I release? I just want to be sure I would be doing it correctly.

Push hard on the brake and ease into the gas. The engine will rev up to a certain speed and then the tires (or tire) will start spinning. The engine speed will depend on your torque converter, with the stock converter it should be somewhere around 1800rpm. When the light turns green, or if you are at the track the third yellow light goes off, mash the gas and let off the brake. You will need to experiment with this a little because every car is a little different. As said earlier you may not be able to floor it. If your tires start spinning ease into it a little more. Launching is very important to winning at the track or on the street. If you get a good launch the other car will be forced to play catch up the whole race.

hehehe.. I have my foot on the brake, but I have an advantage against other 2.8/3.1 automatic f-bodies. I can "ease" up to 3200 when I launch. talk about fooling people with those hard launches, w/ them thinking you have an iroc or something. =) =) =p
