Silver TSI, Don't you have anything else better to do??
Even if you are trying to convince people that an Eclipse is a good car, it's not going to work on an American Sports car page. People have their own opinion's on cars and most people on this board don't care import 4 cylanders. Me personally, I was going to buy a 92' TSI with all kinds of mods for $5000, but personally I don't like working on import cars because it's too damn difficult. Also replacing the timeing belt every 50K miles to me is rediculus. Just my .02 cents

This is a very open minded board. I drive a 5.0 Mustang and 99% of these guys have been nothing but cool to me. If you come here and act right I'm sure nobody will mind you being here, but statements like that prove to me that you're nothing but a punkass ***** whether you admit it or not. A real auto enthusiast would never talk **** like that.
FWIW, I'm a VERY big fan of DSM's and would probably be driving one if it weren't for having my 5.0's, but guys like you give the rest of the DSM guys a bad name.

I thought the TSI was an Eagle talon... but it doesn't matter, because the Talon shared the same body with the Dodge Laser AND the Eclipse in '92.
Mitsubishi is also owned by Dodge if I'm not mistaken. Given those facts, the Eclipse is far from an import given it's very DOMESTIC roots.

you gotta realize the crap we put up with, when a person first gets their first thirdgen they are openminded, they have a sense of humor, they even will joke about it some too, but after hearing the same ******* stereotypes over and over, the normal person just doesn't wanna hear it anymore, joke or otherwise, i personally will give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you didn't mean it that way, so, Welcome, if you are here to be peaceful

I had never even heard of the 3rd gen=******* stereotype until I got on this site. I have never encountered this stereotype. Some of you will probably say that I'm in Texas--everyone's a *******. Not around Dallas/Fort Worth. Especially not at TCU, where I go to school. Anyway, that ******* stuff has either not made it here yet, or has never taken hold.

i always thought that the ******* and "trailer trash" stereotypes were more reserved for the late 2nd gen cars, but i don't know. i don't endorse either one. my cousin drives a riced out z24, and i give him junk every chance i get. for me, the 4 cylinder sound doesn't do it for me. i should be used to it, my daily drivers for the past 3 years (86 cavalier, 86 celebrity, and a 90 acclaim) have all been powered by 4 cylinders. i got tired of driving a 4 cylinder, and decided to purchase my 84 camaro because i wanted to go fast for cheap, for one.
what bothers me the most is that this topic is most likely going to escalate into a shouting match (so to speak). i would gladly admit to the fact that there are some imports that could beat my camaro on the track, namely the supras and the 300zx's. my argument, as well as most of my fellow thirdgenners here, is that it's less expensive to make our cars faster, and for the most part it is true. i went to high school with a kid who had an acura integra. he actually put some go-fast parts on his car, and from what i have heard, the car is actually quite quick for a economy car. it's his car, it's his pride and joy.
that's what gus wanted to do, so that's cool.
on the other side, my cousin with his 96z24 does nothing but brag about how fast his car is (it sounds like a very angry chainsaw), and how well it handles. i can't imagine how a car with a 205/40(i think)/17 tire could handle well, 205 is kinda itty bitty, isn't it? my 84 currently has 245's all the way around. thankfully, he hasn't progressed to the sticker stage, or any of the major appendages that stick off of the cars and are supposedly meant for downforce. by the way, my 155,000 mile 86 celebrity sounded like a chainsaw once. i drove it for a week or so until the novelty wore off.
if you do any racing, please do it on a track, or a road you know FOR SURE is deserted!

you might be a little surprised at what 205 can do
thats all I have on my car right now and I can out turn my 71 camaro that was running 235 all the way around
also I know I can out turn most 3rd gens as well as a few other cars out there
tire size is not all there is to traction

A ****** is an 80's hairstyle. Cut close on the sides, and allowed to grow long in the back. Have you seen the movie "Joe Dirt"? The hairstyle that Joe has is a ******. That being said, I feel that I should weigh in on the whole 3rg gen/******* comment/discussion. I have lived in a couple of rural areas, in both Tennesse and Florida. The ******* phenominon is not limited to 3rd gen camaro's, but to domestic vehicles. However, the most often chosed mode of transport that is not a truck would seem to be either a 1970-something Oldsmobile Cutlass, or a 3rd gen Camaro. The Camaros usually have some sort of sticker commonly assicoated with redneckedness, such as "ain't skeered" or "*******". They usually have the stock chevy rims, and are badly in need of paint and a washing. Even my Camaro looks like a ******* mobile at the moment, only due to the fact that I currently do not have the money to fix it up like I want. That is the one thing that 3rd gen camaro's have in common with older caddy's, in fact. They can look really, really nice, or look like complete trash. I am not a *******. I do not come down on rednecks. Most of them that I know are good people. Admittedly, there are some who are racist, or dumb, or mean, or just not good people, but then, you find that in ANY class of people.

First of all, why does anyone take any personal offense to that comment? The ****** is coming back folks. If you lived in or near a big city you would see it(I live near Chicago and have already seen the ****** on some heads).
Besides, the ****** should be associated with the 2nd gen F-Bodies. That was the era of there existance. Yea the 3rd gens were released in the early 80s, but nobody who wore a ****** could afford one. We (we being the operative word
) were all to young.
Surely you guys have seen the video "Mullutron"!! That video is great! The car that starts the video is a ~78-81 Firebird, which fits the bill. Then this 'Mullutron' walks around shooting people with a laser, turning there hair into a ******. It's cool!!
That and the video by American Hi-Fi, "Flavor of the week". That video is SO COOL!!!!!!
It's filled with ******s, biker shorts, leg warmers, 3in. wide belts, chains, and all kinds of 2nd gen. F-Bodies.
I guess you gotta be old like me to appreciate it!!!!!!!!

TSI,
Welcome. I guess I got in here too late to really be offended by anything you said, but it wouldnt bother me anyway. You just have to be kind of careful, some of us have a short fuse when it comes to import drivers bashing on us. I'm not a big fan of imports but thats just a personal opinion. TSI's are nice cars, but dont try to make it sound in any way American because its not. There are actually quite a few import drivers that hang out on this board and they are all great guys. I'd just watch what you say about rednecks/trailer parks (kind of a touchy subject here).
Peace

I'd just watch what you say about rednecks/trailer parks (kind of a touchy subject here).
Peace</font>
TSI,
Welcome. I guess I got in here too late to really be offended by anything you said, but it wouldnt bother me anyway. If your not a kid that makes matters worse.
Dropping this was the whole idea of the last post. I agree with you and have no problem with you. I also agree that people around here are way too ****.

I Silver TSI's defense, he is from Sterling heights,MI. Ive seen some raging ******s there, plus in my own little slice of suberbia hell. It was an innocent joke. And BTW, G92 IROC, why don't you bring up how your $200 allowance isn't good enough for you-talk about a stupid thing to say.

I take the jokes in stride, people at school make cracks about my cars but know they wouldn't mess with the '76 firebird (which i call the JoeDirtmobile), i even joke around about it, on halloween my girlfriend and me drove around in my camaro with ****** wigs and KISS t-shirts (no offense to anyone, KISS rocks). Anyone who saw us got a good laugh and so did my friends. You gotta learn to role with the punches, there's always gonna be jealous people.

I got the joke and got on with my life, c'mon people. Lighten up.
Like some of the other guys said, we've just had some problems lately, anyone remember that honda guy who was just horrible? His sole purpose of coming here was to talk trash and he sure was good at it.
BTW if it wasn't for my camaro, I'd have got a 92 GSX, and the DSM factory is 45 minutes from my house so i don't really consider them imports, but aren't most civics built in ohio? Eh whatever.
