if you go to court you can usually get reckless dropped to careless. reckless is a 5point ticket, a fine, carries an insurance penalty, i if youhave any other points will likely send you to driving school. careless is 2 points and a fine.

Just went to court for reckless in NJ yesterday. I talked to the prosecutor, he called teh cop, and since the cop was too lazy to come to court he agreed to drop it to careless. (Even though what I did does qualify as reckless) The fine is 150-200 + court fees, 2 pts for Careless, and up to 500$ for Reckless, 5 pts and if you're young (had license for less then 1 year) chances are they'll take your license.

Either way go to court and talk to the prosecutor, and say you'll take this to court if its not dropped to careless. 95% of the time the cop will not want to go to court and will downgrade the charge. Don't waste money on a lawyer for this either.

Good luck man

whoah whoah whoah, hang on a second. When did you talk to the prosecuter? Before your court date? If you talked to him on the court and he then called the cop there is a big problem there. In NJ the cop that issued the citation HAS to be in court under normal circumstances or else the court date gets postponed or the ticket is thrown out....
