Ran into a Cobra yesterday...

Basically I heard a nice roar of a V8 on the way to work. I just loved the sound and followed it to a nice burgundy Cobra. It was the older generation before the famous Terminator style. It felt nice seeing anything besides a civic or integra driving around for once. I can tell it had been modified just by the sound and the skinnies up front.

I was in my daily which is a GTP with basically just complete exhaust, intake and stock pulley with Overkill Pcm. Nothing fancy or special but a real fun combo, probably high 13s at best. I decided to not to anything and just gave him the thumbs up.

I do wonder though, how fast are these Cobras? If it matters all I saw were a SVT logo on the left on the rear and chrome Cobra on the bumber. Maybe the logos are year specific? Who knows.

Any Cobra pre 2003 is nothing special. Stock LS1s walk them.

Here's a fun read for you. GMHTP compared the '96 Cobra to the '96 SLP SS.

Re: Ran into a Cobra yesterday...

03-04 cobras were supercharged. they were more expensive than an ls1 fbody but would mph them by a couple mph. they would get al capowned by a c5 z06.

99-01 cobras, maybe 13.5 downhill.

96-98, high 13's stock. **** poor gearing and peaky hp were their demise. tossing in a set ot 4:10's and DR's woke them up.

fox body cobras. WGAS.

When my WS6 was new, I matched up against a new(96) Cobra. He wanted the match up and let other people in line run first. We stage and I proceeded to walk all over him. We didn't get another chance to run as he left the track right after the run. Really wanted to talk to him to see what he thought of my car

I guess that you didn't run into the right cobra, LOL Google (Modular Depot Victor Downs) or ( victor DownsNMRA). Stock 98 Cobra to pure street specs.

Re: Ran into a Cobra yesterday...

Good to know. I have my 86 out and running and have been driving it the whole week to work. Let me just say the Yank converter is amazing...

I haven't run into this cobra since then. Only a bunch of Cobalts and Civics, Its funny how people don't seem to want to play with the 86. While the GTP was a different story.

Thats because most people are very intimidated by older V8s due to the reputation that Muscle Cars had back in the day.

Nobody ****ed with cars that had 400+ cu engines. Fortunately, most of the people in my area think my car has a V6 for some reason ( are they deaf? ) big surprise when they get dusted hard. ( Even had a guy in a Minivan try and go and gave me 2 thumbs up at the next light but I think I got trolled...)

"The Cobra is the straight-A student, the SS the schoolyard bully." In real life, I'll take straight A's, but in cars, come on, give me the bully. That's a Mustang insult in disguise.

Re: Ran into a Cobra yesterday...

Why do our cars have more torque even than the Lt1's?

I've pondered that myself.

Re: Ran into a Cobra yesterday...

L98s are fun for the street. My friend has a L05 with a TPI ontop and the few times I got on it it was very fun.

LT1s are very good motors for what they are. Add bolt-ons and a converter for a Auto or 3.73/4.10s for a manual and they are loads of fun. Everything needed to make a healthy combo is already there.

Still haven't seen the Cobra again since that day. Just alot of Turbalts and a kid in a red SRT4. I need to move out of this area, just a bunch of hellaflush trend kids here.
