Trying to decide on gear ratio

Guys, I have an '86 IROC that I'm about to swap in a 383 crate motor, it'll be a 10 to 1 compression ratio, running a roller cam with .528 Intake .536 Exhaust, 230 Intake / 240 Exhaust duration @ .050 - 112 degree lobe separation. The heads are Aluminum, 195cc Intake Runner, Straight Plug, 2.020/1.600 in. Valves. I plan on running the 700R4 tranny, with a lock out stall converter with around 2000-2500 stall. The issue at hand is, I don't know if I should stick with the stock 3:23 gears or go with a little lower gear ratio; I'm all ears for any advise.

I'm building the car as a street rod, that will see more cruise ins than drag strip, but I'm shooting for around 430 or so horse power.

Re: Trying to decide on gear ratio

Sounds like more of a drag car than street cruiser to me. 3.73 gears would be suitable for your application.
