how does a 4.3 blazer loose to a 1.8 cavalier

how? my friends tell me its because its a truck and its not mabe for racing, its made for pulling stuff and just about everything but racing? but come on a 1.8 vs a 4.3, maybe its because the driver weighs 200lbs. the passenger weighs around 130, the two guys in the back combined weighed atleast 230-240. so all togeather thats 560 pounds. well someone tell me why?

That and the blazer weighs much more than a cavalier. Dont look at hp numbers..look at power- to - weight ratio's. A civic doesnt need 300 hp to beat a 300 hp camaro.

Also what year was the blazer? Newer ones i think are more HP.

But don't fall into the "displacement = fast" mindset, granted displacement sure helps but its not the whole story. If it was my 5.0 would've never got smoked by 2.4-2.5L cars.

I own a 1991 Jimmy with the TBI 4.3, 2 wheel drive, 4 door. It'll crush a stock base-model Cavalier, at least coming off the line and up to about 80 MPH. The Z-24 Cavs with the Quad 4 (2.3/2.4L) and especially the older V6 Z-24s will beat me, however.

The TBI 4.3s are definitely biased towards torque, rather than HP, but they aren't THAT slow. The later "vortec" 4.3s DO make decent HP as well as torque.
