me vs. F-150
This kid at my school has a long bed '98 F-150. He thinks no one can beat his truck. All he has done to it was put on a new exhaust and a K&N FIPK. Do you think I have a chance in my 305 TPI T/A? He has the 4.6 L V8. I have seen him run his truck and it is quick but that was when I drove a Toyota so a lot of cars looked fast compared to me. I want to show him up but want to see what my chances are in my bone stock T/A.
Why do you compare yourself to a FORD F-150. I mean who really cares? Your car looks better and runs better proabably. I mean come on its a big truck and your a sports car. Thats like saying well he has a V-8 Deisel and it gets good gas mileage but can my Camaro win? Naw man just smoke that fool because we all know that you can and go on with it. But keep it up were all pulling for you
I couldn't find the specs for a 98 F-150 with the 4.6L V8, but i found the specs for a 99 F-150 with the 5.4L Triton V8 on caranddriver.com
They listed the following:
Curb weight. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4656 lb
Zero to 60 mph. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .8.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .24.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .8.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .16.2 sec @ 85 mph
based on the information I could get here at thirdgen.org, since you didn't say if your were a 5 speed or not;
87 IROC
Formula hp tq
Trans Am A4 LB9 V8 5.0 (305) 190@4000 295@3200 TPI
[edit] I found the power specs for the 4.6L V8
Power (SAE net). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .220 bhp @ 4500 rpm
Torque (SAE net) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .290 lb-ft @ 3250 rpm
you guys will be neck and neck. but his cold air intake will help a bit, so he'll pull on you a little.

Just because its a truck doesn't mean its not fast. The Lightning is a truck and those things are quick. I have an automatic and so does he. I am going to wait and race him when I get my new exhaust and K&N filter. With that I should be able to beat him a lot more easier.
trans87 i beat my friends truck and he has the same mods...only he has a silvarado..... if u go to the stupidest races board... .ull see how bad i killed that SOB and i had non of my mods and i have the same car as u....but a z28 i hate speed trucks as much as i hate ricers...well not that much...

It is definently a 4.6 Says on the manifold and all. Sounds aggressive though. Like I said just because it's a truck doesn't mean it's slow. His truck can really haul. I have seen him beat a 1970 305 Chevelle that had a 4v and dual exhaust. I think I can smoke him though.

Your TPI 305 should be able to hit low 16's to high 15's, I'd say you will beat him, but not by much.

Here, Gentlemen, is a long "Truck Story"...
This may show you how dumb some of the racist cheeseheads are where I come from.
There was a truck that was known as, get this, "Dog ****". There were literally hundreds of stories about it. From what I could tell, it was a 70 something chevy c/10. Crap brown and not in mint condition. I won't even waste your time with some of the crazy **** about this truck, but some claimed it was a 250 4bbl highly modded. Others claimed it could take down new Camaros. Mad yet? All I had that was close to fast was the busted up 83 403 cadillac. Completely stock if you don't count the clogged air filter, fouled plugs, busted single exhaust, loud lifter, old tires, and screwed transmission. All the same, I would guess that it could have managed low 16s, since it was less than 8 seconds to 60. But after, I performed a little burnout that I didn't think anyone who needed to see...saw...they started talking about how it wasn't running as well. You know, just in case we ran across each other and blew him clean off the highway. I guess when they saw a 4200 lb car leave 2 thick 20-30 foot strips of rubber on the road and the smoke still rising that other people were then driving through....they knew that is was no pushover. Certainly an improvement over the original diesel. I know all this sounds like a joke to you sports car drivers, but I figure that I deserve to brag sometime.
Also bagged a 302 79 Ford truck, a late 70s T/A, a classic impala, numourous s10s, a BMW...The list goes on but it does end, since the body and transmission is gone, and the motor is not in the original state. Thank ***.
Those f150s are quick. Even the f350s run 17s. And with no tire spin they can wake you up off the line. Looking into my extensive magazine car guide and magazine collection, I found this:
1998 Ford f150, 4.6l V8, 4SPEED AUTO
*these results are from a 97 xltextended cab 2wd. screwed up magazine.
210 hp
0-60.....9.3
1/4 mile.....17.3@ 80 mph
Hope that helps...but this guide has the catera and deville running similar times so...it ain't 100 proof.
