I don't know...does cfi mean carburetor? Well either way, your car has 150-175 horse and up to 275 lbs-ft stock. It should be in the 16s stock.
On ther hand, an 87(sorry don't know about 89s) could have around 190 horse and they seem to be smaller cars. I hope you win, but you will have your hands full. Get a k&n air filter element an open the air filter up. If it's tbi(and it's like my ford's tbi) this can be done by flipping the lid upside down and screwing it back on. This helps ALOT. Also +4 Bosch platinum plugs and wires. You probably already have these things, but I'm no mechanic so I'm trying to help out the best way I can. Do your best, because he has the stock advantage. Take care.

An 89 formula with 305 TBI has 170 hp, 245 tq and a cross fire 305 has 175 and 250 tq. it wil probably come down to the shape your cars are in and what gears each of you has, what has he done to his car to make it faster. if its still stock you should beat him
How many miles are on your car?
How many miles are on the formula?
I would go with the car that has the least number of miles to win, if they both had the same mods and nothing was wrong them.

It should be a close race, both engines were rated about the same horsepower. Itll probably come down to weight and driver ability. Let us know how it turns out.
sorry i havent posted in a while on saturday i raced him at a red light.we did it the old fashioned way putit in D and mashed the gas when the light turned we both peeled out and were running pretty even until are cars shifted to second i pulled away about half a car he kept tryin till about 70 then he let off it was a close race but beware the power of 1983 muscle

just out of curiosity, i know chevy stopped making the CFI's because they had problems starting in the cold. were there any other reasons besides this that chevy stopped their production? i know they werent great at making power, but why not fix the cold start problem and let them go?
