Turbo Eclipse with blow-off valve, intake + exhaust + free mods...what's he running?

This kid in our school has one... he told me those mods (you can hear the blow off... it's actually a really cool wicked sound)... I know it's real quick just by watching take off down the road (I know he's not trying)

I found out from a friend of his he'll be putting a much bigger turbo on it soon, what size would be typical for this car and do you think he'll achieve his predicted 11 seconds?

It's a newer Eclipse by the way.. a GS I think it is? What do you think he's running with his current mods?

If its a turbo, its a GST (fwd) or GSX (AWD). Yeah, the blowoff valves do sound cool, but they come with them from the factory. Maybe he has an upgraded one. If he goes with a larger turbo, like a 20G or something, and has the fuel system to back it up, its possible an AWD car could hit 11s. With good full exhaust, a boost controller, fuel pump and clutch upgrade it'll run low 13s. This is one of the non-V8 cars that I actually like and depending on the owner, respect.

I'd say he can run like a low 13, if he has full exhaust. The streetable turbo upgrade is the 20b turbo (I think) Or he could put a T3/T4 Turbo in it. If he turns up the boost on a new bigger turbo he'll hit 11's.

MAN, THOSE STICKERS ARE WHAT MAKE THE CAR FAST!!!!! How many stickers does he have? If he has more then 5 I bet he could run 10's no problem.

If it's a second gen '95-99 and if he's still running the stock turbo with the mods that you mentioned, mid to high 13's is probably about the best he's going to do. The T25 turbo that the car comes with kinda runs out of breath at about 270 horse. If he's going to a 16G, mid 12's on race gas is about right. If he's upgrading to a 20G with some good driving 11's are definitely doable. As hundreds of guys have done this. Of course, this is with AWD. If he is running a GST which is FWD as opposed to the AWD GSX he'll have traction problems. At a track with slicks and a nice sticky surface he could run these times with a FWD. Out on the street he'd have a real problem. With AWD you could run exactly what you ran at the track on the street. Hope this helps.

The Turbo eclipses and talons don't come with blow off valves stock, they run the waste gate system stock. Not everyone would like to hear a pop evrey time the turbo spools down. And 11's I doubt that too.

Actually the second gen talon/eclipses had blow off valves, the 1st gens had waste gates... and i bet with a larger turbo like hes thinking with a manual boost controller hed hit 11's with about 20llbs boost if he doesnt blow a head gasket trying... btw.. im looking at a 92 talon tsi so i know a little

I would think the car came with both a wastegate and some sort of blow/pop off valve since they serve to different functions

wastegates are on the exhaust side and help bypass some of the exhaust when you are wot so you dont get boost creep or spikes stuff like that to help save the motor and turbo from over boosting. problem is when you slam the throttle shut the wastegate is now going to do nothing cause your turbo is still spinning for a moment even without the exhaust gas going through it
that is when a blow off valve comes into place. now that your throttle is closed all the air is going to back up into the intake system like your IC and all that plumbing and make it's way back to the turbo which can cause lots of damage to it. so the blow off valve will let that pressure go.
though a lot of stock units dont vent to the atmosphere (real loud) from what I understand but instead vent it upstream of the turbo and kinda reuse it which is a lot quieter
