3000GT vs. IrocZ

Here goes,
A kid at my school just recently got his 3000GT, the non-turbo, I think its front wheel drive, version. A bunch of his friends talk about how fast it is and that it could be the fastest car in the parking lot. The other day I followed him, and when he got on it I jumped on it from behind at a stop sign. Because I had to stop, he had like 5 cars on me. By the time I hit third without shifting the auto, and a horrible launch up a hill, I had to hit the brakes before hitting him.
Heres the real question, now I know that car isn't the fastest, but what are the chances of a 1989 Iroc Z beating him. The Iroc is stock, with the 305 700R-4 and I think 2.73 gears. I followed the Iroc when he got on it and he seemed faster than the 3000GT, but Its hard to say. What would a N/A 5-speed 3000GT run in the quarter, and what would my friends 89 run?

What year 3000gt is it? I have heard that the base models and the sl version for the newer ones have about 218 hp. I know that the older ones (92ish) are about 160hp for the base model and the sl/rt version are about 222hp. so it depends on the year.

I think both cars would be in the 15s. Either way, your Mustang would kill them both. Just one other thing, do you go to school? You mentioned the 3000GT might be the "fastest car in the parking lot". Did they overlook your car?

Those pictures never came up, but I'm not sure what year, thinking 1992.

Ya I'm in high school, and kids in my school see stickers and chrome rims and think its the fastest car. This may sound bad, but I'm sick of Most of my generation and their opinions on cars.

only one way to find out......

I owned a '93 3000GT SL,automatic. it has a DOHC 3.0 V6 rated at 218HP. from my own personal experience.......I would say your going to have a pretty hard time with the camaro........IF it is an SL (base models are SOHC only 154 horses...yuck!) if it's a V-R4.......you should race him just to see how an AWD twin turbo 320horse car leaves the starting line!!! there are little differences between the three available models, the easiest way to tell is to get a glance at the rear bumper on the right it should be clear as to what family it belongs to. the one I had was about average as far as cars go,it was a great car to drive and got the job done when cheesy ricers started S#!t. they don't really get moving until 3700rpms,however their redline is 7200rpms. mine was auto but that didn't seem to slow it down much,I left the econ/pwr switch in econ mode and left the OD on for normal driving and usually forgot to hit those switches when I engaded in battle. I always found it amusing that I could put a 'hurtin on other cars with my tansmission stuck in econ/OD mode!!.....I cant even imagine how much fun a 5-speed would be. it always seemed to have a little more than 218 when it was approaching redline,I'm not sure .but I think it has to do with less drivetrain resistance with the front wheel drive. I think you should race just for fun,I would love to test the 3si handling against a thirdgens. nothing against thirdgens but I would've kept that car if it didn't cost me $$$ for insurance, mitsubishi has earned my respect amongst foriegn cars. someone really had their head together when they made those cars!
