please help me settle this p!ss!ng contest...

while waiting in the chow line one day,my friend notices an ad for a '99 V6,auto mustang for $11,500 22mpg...I pointed out that it gets horrible milage for a V6 and the performance it offers and you could get a much cooler 'stang for $11k,my '84 T/A got 21mpg w/ a quadrojet! so being the wisea$$ that he is..(always cracking on me because my T/A still has a 305 & and I'm always raggin' on him because he spent all his money on a beefed up ZZ4 and his car was all busted up with bent strut towers and rust!!) he mentions that it's a v6 but it would still toast my S#!tty 305 T/A....ofcourse that had nothing to do with my orignal comment but he figured it would upset me in some way.........little does he know...all I've got on my mind is mozzarella sticks and chicken nuggets......mmmm mozeralla sticks!! so I try to end the argument quickly by letting him know that the stock V6 comes out of the box with 200 horses and I know from experience that those extra 10 horses doesn't help them much when I race them with the '84 T/A....I know what my car is and what it's capable of so I'm not trying to make it into something it's not,but I know that the V6 stangs don't have nothing on it! can someone verify this for me,since my trans am isn't road ready right now I can't do a real life demonstration. my car is an '84 with 305 H.O. ,700R4,3.73....only performance related mods are K&N filter & air silener delete, shorty headers,HF cat and Borla exaust, slightly advanced timing
can anyone attest that a L69 thirdgen will put a 'hurtin on V6 mustangs?

I've seen a dyno chart for a BONE STOCK v6 with an AUTO and heres what it looked like.

RPM HP TQ
3700 127.9 181.5
3800 134.4 185.8
3900 131.9 177.7
4000 134.7 176.8
4100 135.8 173.9
4200 137.7 172.2
4300 138.4 169.1
4400 142.3 169.9
4500 141.6 165.3
4600 142.1 162.3
4700 143.1 160.0
4800 143.7 157.3
4900 142.5 152.8
5000 142.5 149.7

Not too bad for a V6 with an auto, but the torque is not there. Remeber that the loss through the powertrain is greater with an auto than a stick. I'd say a standard should put 155-160 hp to the wheels and 195-200 lb ft of torque. I think it would be a good race between the two, because the sticks are mid-high 15 second cars on average and I think, but I'm not sure, you should be in the mid 15 second range. I say race him and if you win, rub it in his face.

5-spd V6's (99 and up) ae pretty decet cars. They aren't rockets, but they can hold their own. The 5-spds are putting down tmes of mid to low 15'. dunno what your T/A runs stock, but don't be so quick to shut it out.

well i gotta 84 ta L69 HOe
all i've done is a hooker cat-back and a K&N
i've still got the Q-JET and my car ran a 15.9 stock........this was b4 a tune up and everything and the car was running 220+ so it bogged also......so i think after what i have done to my car it will b a little faster....hopefully 15.5 or so.....and also im a automatic....if your a stick i heard that they run low 15's if you can shift them right and launch right........i've raced bonnevilles with the 3800 series V6's and a grand prix with the 3100 series V6's.....i beat both......actually the first time at the strip i was against a LS1 SS camaro....and i beat him up until about 40....then he came flying by me like a bat outta HE**.......and the same thing happened with a 94 formula i raced the second time i went to the strip......if the L69 pulled through 2nd gear like it does in 1st it MIGHT be a pretty fast car.....but in my car 2nd gear seems like forever!

i am not makin up any of this that i said....i will tell you that i know my car isnt fast.......thats why im savin up for a
