Got smoked twice last night

Amelia and I were on our way to get some business cards printed out for the Mustang club, driving in my 4 cyl. We were just making our way along Courthouse Rd. when an S10 comes flying up behind us and swerves over to the left to pass. A block or so down the street we ended up first in line at a light together, so it was on I dropped the clutch from 2500 and let 'er rip off the line. Had him all the way through first, but by the top of 2nd, the S10 had started to pull on me. I think I could have held him off up to about 50 - 60, but I missed the 2-3 shift and he went by me

A little while later on our way back home, we pull up beside a TT 300ZX at a stop light with the license plate "Z YA L8R". It was black and all riced out, so I was taking my chances on it not being turbocharged, but sure enough...by the time He saw me powershift into 2nd, he knew I was racing and blew by like we were standing still. Right as he flew by, he shifted, and you could hear the BOV :hail: Wish I'd been in my 5.0 :nono:

Lol. I thought the 4-banger mustangs had 88 or 89 hp?

I know the 2.5l Iron Duke Firebird/Camaro had 90...

I hate how when I am in my Firebird, I can hardly find a race, but when I borrow my dad's Honda, I tend to find a *****, or faster domestic, and can't compete

lol, yea, I can never get a real good race in my 5.0, but in the 4 cylinder everyone and their brother wants to race...or maybe it's just that it's so slow that I THINK everyone's racing me because they're staying even with my when I'm at WOT

The 93's had 2 plugs per cylinder, and somewhere between 100-110 horsepower, but mine's not stock either

2 plugs per cylinder sounds like 4banger potential. How easy would it be for you to do a SVO upgrade?

Be a nice sleeper, and still get great mileage.

That will teach you to drive a 4cly wont it. I once had a kid in a 4cyl automatic mustang challenge my 4cyl 4speed ranger to a race. I told him that i wasnt going to race a nonperformance vehicle. Some guys just never learn.
I havent had a car in so long i dont even remember what it is like to get challenged in a street race though.
Check ya at the finish line.

It's a pretty straight forward swap that I may do once I blow this thing up. I'm torn between that and a 5.0 swap, but the turbo 2.3 would be more economical.

Exactly why I pour my money into my 4 cyl VW (usually.) It's a little faster than my Iroc, which is my daily driver. I'm pondering putting nitrous in the Iroc for those times I'm out getting groceries and a ***** (with a turbo at least) pulls up next to me... or maybe that 75 Z28 with a roll cage and traction bars that whooped my *** on the way to work Monday. =/

Is there a weight advantage between a 4cyl and an 8cyl Mustang besides the engine?

With the tubular front suspension that's going in friday night, I'm expecting my 5.0 to weigh in at about 2825 with me and 1/4 tank of gas. Keep in mind this is significantly lighter than your average 5.0 Mustang. I'm not sure about the 2.3 Mustangs, but I've heard anywhere from 2500-2800. I can do the turbo 2.3 swap for less than $300 whereas it would cost me over $1000 to do a 5.0 swap, so odds are it'll be getting a turbo 2.3 when the current motor blows.

I say go for the Turbo 2.3 man. They made 215 from the factory back in the day which was the most hp per cubic inch in any ford of all time. I'm sure the boost could be cranked for a few more ponies

Sad thing about those two losses is that both of them will talk about how they beat a 5.0 mustang.

It more than likely will be a turbo motor from an xr4ti or t-bird turbo coupe over the 5.0 because it's my daily driver and I drive it HARD through the corners where I live. I also prefer the better weight distribution of having the 4 banger up front. Horsepower isn't really an issue...I'm not interested in having two 12 second Mustangs to worry about.

lol! Yea, you know how them minitruckers and ricers are! Without listening to it, you'd probably think it is a 5.0 without the badging b/c of the Pony wheels with 225's all the way around.

Man Merkurs are hard to find. I think the T-Bird would be an easier find for the turbo 2.3 but it was the '87 when it got the intercooler.

Did you know that the Intercooled turbo bird was faster than the EFI V8 bird?

Nic is an honorary F-body owner... I think everybody has pretty much accepted that...

I have to say I do laugh when I see a 4 cyl mustang... but it would be great with a turbo... I only seem to get races from Dodge Neons... seriously, my only truely serious challengers LOL I can't say it's been a challenge to beat them though I think everybody should get an education in what is fast and what is slow. We Should add a 4th R to the three R's... Reading, wRiting aRithmatic, Rice...

Hey nic,
I'd go with the 2.3 turbo setup. A good buddy of mine transplanted a 2.3T motor into his ranger. Thats a sleeper if there was ever one. He just got it running really well about 2 days ago, and it runs really well now...... at 8psi, can't wait till he bumps it up to 25psi or so.

oh yea, he pulled an aftercooler off a volvo, its about 2x the size of the radiator! and it was really cheap.

speaking of the 2.3 turbo, a freind of mine just got an 87 Tbird Turbo coupe. I drove it and it doesn't seem all that fast, although its not too bad. What kind of HP do those things put out? And just for the heck of it does anybody know what the Tbird turbo coupes run in the 1/4?

Well...one of my girlfriend's friends wants my 4 banger and she's going to give me over twice what I paid for the car (I bought it wholesale), so if things work out right, I'll be driving a 94 Ranger with about $1000 more to play with by this time next week. I'm thinking a 5.0 conversion and a trailer is in order

They're kinda heavy cars... I'd say they run a high 15/low 15... I thought they put out 215 like the SVT 'stang, but I'm not much of a Ford buff so my figures are suspect.

haha alright i just happen to have the Feb '87 issue of Hot Rod in front of me where the V8 bird was tested against the Turbo Bird. With a 5 speed manual, 3.55 rear, 3380lbs curb weight, it did 8.49 0-60 and 16.15 @83.7 it was faster than the EFI V8 bird but not that fast. 190hp @ 4600 and 240 ftlbs @ 3400 (same as an L69 engine from an F Body)
