74 dodge challenger vs 89 formula
so what does everyone think.... he has a 318 engine stock exhaust set-up with open element and small tires on it...
now my car 89 formula LO3 (look in sig)
by the time we race i will have 3:42 or 3:73's and posi
I am pretty sure it should be a close race and i am pretty confident i can take him even though i have a crappy motor also... just wanna know what everyone thinks

The name "Challanger" doesn't automatically mean it is a fast car. By '74, all cars were sucking ***. The 318 is not a bad motor, it's just that this example is from a bad era. Even though you have an auto, I'd say you should beat him if your car is running good. Those cars probably weigh more than the 3rd gens too.

Just make sure he actually has a 318 in it...because I know a couple of cars around here that appear to be (sleepers), but when they get on it or open the hood
....i.e. just make sure he doesn't have a 440 or something like that. There's a guy around here who has a black one w/ little tires, but he's left many people with smaller wallets. A 440 would leave you before you got out of 1st gear. I guess what I'm trying so say in simple abbreviated terms is DON'T GET HUSTLED.

Don't be fooled...
Also keep in mind that any engine can be modified. It would be alot easier just to say a 318 is a stock 318 than to say a 440 or smaller is a 318.
I recall a run-in I had with a 70s Ram Charger on the highway in the Crown Victoria. I eased past him, then he got behind me and I saw him whip over to the outside lane. I floored it and it looked like I had floored the brakes. He had to have gotten close to 110- fast. So I suppose it could have been a 440, 426, 383...but I doubt it. More than likely a 360 or a 318. So keep an open mind. By the way, if it's a 318, he's putting out less than 200 hp stock.
