So close...
So close...
I went to the track today with my new tires-Nitto 245/50/16 extreme drags. A guy w/a '93 Z-28 pulls up next to me in the pits and asks what I ran. I told him 14.2 on street tires, he said he was hoping for 13.70's. Well, we wound up next to each other the third time I raced. I killed him off the line(obviously), and I stayed next to him until just past the 1/8mi. He did pass me after that, but didn't seem to have a big lead on me. I got my slip and he did run 13.76, but, I got my best time of the day, or ever for that matter.
14.04@96.94mph
60ft. 2.07(not bad!!)
So close to the 13's!! If only I had some gears I would be in, any gears but, what I have. Maybe I'll get a lucky run next Friday.

I think if you take out your back seats, spare tire, and jack, and w/ luck you'll break into the 13's. Is it possible for you to heat up your nittos a little more and maybe get your 60ft. time to a 2.00? Then w/ all that, you'll be gaurenteed 13's.

One word.....GEARS! You're still running your 2.77s?!? :nono:
Get rid of those sick puppies. Recently tossed a set of 3.73s in the Mustang, best bang for the buck...period! You use em all the time, no need to get em refilled...and cheap!

Nicely done my friend!
14.0 w/ 2.77's is nothing to laugh at. If I were you the next two mods I would do would be gears (probably 3.42's) and a converter. With those two mods you'll be running mid 13's without gaining a single horsepower. And with a converter you can get some awesome 60' times (sub 2.0 easy). Its time for you to start woopin some LT1 butt!
Good luck with the car and all future mods

Yeah,
I figured he'd gain a little more, but I like to be conservative with estimates. I dont understand why more thirdgen guys dont run a converter. Almost every LS1 A4 runs a converter, and its probably going to be one of my first mods

I took most of my interior out for some resto work, the floor & trunk carpets and dampening fiber is so heavy!! the drivers seat is heavy too if it's power. if you have a non-power seat or one to swap in that should shed some wieght. the AC is the heaviest stuff on the car..if you don't use it like me,it never worked. I'm not sure you'd want to drive around with no interior like some sort of *****,but it could be a weekend thing. you'd need a T-47 torx head to get the seat belts out of the way. don't buy a torx head from autozone, trust me on this one. sears has them.
my car is so much lighter, with all the stuff I removed from it,it doesn't even look like it's been lowered anymore!!

you think 2.77s is a handicap? im running the base corvette gears.... 2.59s! and i hit mid 13s with them. you dont want insanely high gearing with the TPI intake, it makes all its power in the low-mid rpm range. going to 3.73s or higher will put the car into the high rpms sooner, killing its effective power range. i know of a couple vettes in the low 12s with 3.07 gears. if your planning on keeping the stock tpi intake setup, i wouldnt go any higher than 3.55s.
Out of curiosity, have you checked the prices on what it would cost to change the gears in the borg warner axles?! More than I want to pay right now. Trust me, I want them gone worse than anyone, but, I don't have about $1,000 to buy gears and change them out, do you? For some reason, Chevy got this bright idea for an Australian rearend in the Irocs, for no particular reason. They are supposed to be good to the 11's, but, if you get the wrong gears, you are screwed. And the weather was perfect, sunny, 55, and no wind.
