Question

I have an 86 Firebird 305HO 5-speed and due to my beating 95-96 Mustang GTs is it plausable that the person who had my car before modified it any? Or id this due to people not knowing how to drive? I know when I bought it he had all 4 barrels of the carb running (he stuck a metal part to keep the butterfly open).

Most 94-95 Mustangs run mid 15's and 96-98 run mid 15's to low 16's. What gears does your car have?

they still produced a L69 in 86', but not many were made. i believe it was the last year for that engine. however, i thought you could only get it in the Trans Am, not the base firebird.

I have stock 2.73 rear end in it. It is carbureted and as far as the specs go, I've read in like 4 different sights it has the L69 engine. The car has the SE package but the VIN says it's just a straight Firebird. I also know that the carb. engine made in 86 is hard to find. All I know is that my car seems to be pushing more than 190 horses especially when I wind out 2nd & 3rd.

The car will put you into the backseat as long as it's 3rd plug wire stays on...lol

Ok, did a VIN check says it's the LG4 engine but the part of 165 horses is bull. My car is cranking close to 200, if it wasn't I would be able to touch a newer Mustang even if the driver didn't know how to drive! I'm really confused now...lol

In stock form my numbers are very close, Think about it 225hp 94-95 and 215hp in 96-98.

Has anyone done anything to your engine?

When my TBI Formula was stock 170hp it couldn't knock a cup off the dash.

A stock LG4 will probably run a very low 16. I would say that the previous owner did some mods. But I would think someone would tell you something like that to increase the price.

I've only had the car for 4 years. The dealer did say that the guy who had it did alot of work to it. The price wasn't high at all, the dealer thought something was wrong with it and there was, the 3rd spark plug wire keeps popping off.

Looking at the engine, there's nothing that I can see that has been changed unless he changed the cam and such, that I'll know next week.

All I know is this car will sit you back and from mechanics that have driven it they all say it's running close to 200 horses. I wonder if it's at all possible that GM made an L69 for the stick shift and just didn't tell anyone or put the L69 heads on it. Guess I'll find out next week, I'll let you all know.

Thank you all for replying. I appriciate it...
