For one thing dont start your launch while your engine is revved cuz you'll just smoke your tires and they will spin and not go anywhere. Tried it and lost to a Nova with a 350. Practice first and when your car starts to pull just floor it and let go of the clutch but make sure your moving though cuz if your not you will just dump your clutch and your car with start jerking. Then just shift at around 500 rpm's before you hit redline cuz at red line your car has no power so shift.

By the way how do you like your 80 series flowmasters?
I am going to put some on and I would like your opinion on power wise and how they sound..

I'll have to throw in my opinion, get a Hooker, sound clip is in the signature, I had a flow on before didn't care for it, but that was with a stock I pipe.

When I had the LG4, used to dump the clutch around 3k. That LG4 wouldn't spin the tires from a dead stop unless the car was on gravel or something. Worked pretty well.

i launched my ~300 horse L69 at about 2500 rpms. I have a 3.73 posi and 255/60/15 tires. I got a little spin but it was the best rpm to launch, any less and my motor bogs. I say launched because my gears and differential finally broke and the tranny pops out of 1st gear now. Lesson: be ginger with the T5 unless you like working on them and have money to burn.

If you want to go fast, you have to bring the revs up some, you can't just ease out with now revs. Don't powershift, use the clutch.

I launch mine at 2500, I have the week 305 in mine so it really donsn'e have too much power, but it goes good. I also have an open dif so that doesn't help. You need to go down a road at night and just stop and try it out until you have it right.

I'm hardly ever going to race, as I don't want to abuse my baby! But just in case I have to teach some ***** a lesson...

Anyways, I like the sound of my 80 Flowmaster, it's not very loud, but it's got a nice tone, especially at WOT

drop the clutch at various engine RPM's to find the point where the tires break lose, that is about where you want to be launching (right where there is small chirp). If you find yourself burning too much rubber then you should get some stickier tires... For instance, I can only get about 9 second 0-60 on my snow tires because I burn them all the way through first, with stickier tires they wont spin and all that wasted power goes to the wheels, I should be able to pull a 7.5 0-60 with the summer tires... If you're real ambitious, take the car all the way to the red line and note where the acceleration starts to slow down, the point right before that is going to be the optimal shift point for that gear, armed with this info you should be able to rival most automatics on the road regardless of make or model... the smooth shifting will also impress any [female] passengers

PS dont break your differential!

Exactly! WTF you know? Why would anyone try to discourage someone using a standard? There's plenty of people that master a clutch that don't know how to shift and there are only two ways to learn... ask or try it out or both... And, there are plenty of people wondering if they are doing it right or if there are little secrets out there... I don't know everything myself, I just speak from my own experience.
