Need new injectors (AGAIN !)

Well after my last trip to the GM dealer and after paying yet another $90 for diagnostics -- the guy used a multi-meter just like the one I bought last week that didn't work -- and found that 4 of 8 injectors had low, low resistance in other words I have yet another batch of FRIED Multecs. (Are you listening easySPEEDcamaro ?).

The readings were 1.5, 17.0, 7.1, 16.9, 11.8, 16.8, 10.2, 17.0...

So like any TRUE f-body guy I recodnize that a repair is an upgrade in disguise. Here is what I am trying to find out.

If I stick with the 305 what is the best rating for an injector ? 19lbs ? 22lbs ?

I have heard that 24s are not very effective on the 305.

I have read on the TPI board that Ford SVO (gulp) injectors are a good replacement for the 305.

What about brand names any preferences ?

How about who or where to buy them from ?

Any comments would be appreciated.

thx in advance,
RP.

This may not be the road that you want to take(being the cheapest) but the Accel's are probably the least expensive NEW injector that you'll find. I can't vouch for the longevity since I've only had mine a year but so far so good(although I have not tested them lately). I got mine from cruzin performance in Michigan for $229.00 USD. By the time they were in my hands it cost me around $480.00 CDN. They are a Bosch style injector. Rich, who is the owner of Cruzin performance is a really nice guy. He'll be able to answer any of your questions. The website is at this address www.cruzinperformance.com. You might want to post this on the big board to see if anyone has any other sujjestions.

hehehe

towed the car to the mechanic this morning

cost me $110, and boy did we have fun getting the car out of the underground garage!

brought it to the mechanic, he said my clutch is fried. like... so fried that u can change gears without touching the clutch lol

he told me not to go with a performance clutch and just put the regular one in, it'll last longer.

Apparently they were used from '89-92 or so says Rick at Cruizin Performance. They must be junk cause he talks about them with vEhEmeNcE !!!

Well I can't say for all years of Multec but the ones I have used ('91) are a black hole for cash. Junk. JUNK. FREAKING JUNK. My car would be in perfect health if not for that junk man does it run bad with a couple of crappy injectors. Well now I am just venting...

Hey what about Aug 10th ? Are you going to come down ?

Well, my injectors are from a '94 Z28 so I hope they aren't Multec's. I had them cleaned and flowed at LPE last year. My car runs kind of strange and i've allways kind of thought that it was just the engine and the ECM having an argument.

I have no idea if i'll be at the August 10th drag day. If I have the rest of my stuff installed by then i'll do my best to show. I'd like to be able meet up with you guys sometime this summer but it really is a long drive for me.

i went with the ford injectors only cost me 400 for a new set of 8 i got them in town at marken performance a few years ago.

suckes to have to replace them. its not much of an upgrade on a stock engine. you would also have to change the program in the chip if you go bigger.

bought the Accels

Thx for the advice. I called Rudy Held and got 8 x 19lb Accels for $505 CDN tax in. They are supposed to be here on Wednesday so I will be Toyota'ing around till then.

Lets tally this up, $90 for the EGR that did not fix the problem, 8 injectors (again) for which I am out $500 this time and yet another $90 for a GM diagnostic to tell me my GM injectors are junk.

I am back in the Toyota until the Bird gets fixed and down about 150hp (Tercels make 93hp) hey it really sucks to be me this week.

palric, FWIW I put in new Accel 23# injectors last year and haven't had any problems so far. I bought them from Cruzin too.

thx for the heads up. I bought the Accel 19lb'ers from Rudy Held hopefully they show up before winter.

Rick & Cruizin says they are Bosche with Accel's name on them and of high quality. I hope so I am tired of this injector grief -- makes we wonder about carb's again...

multi-meter testing of injectors

I figured out why my multi-meter test showed the injectors ok and the GM dealers showed 4 bad injectors.

I tested the injectors COLD and the GM mechanic tested them HOT. I just minutes ago tried them HOT and sure enough I get four bad readings....

What a FREAKing dummy I am I blew $100 at GM cause I never thought to test them hot. Where is my boot I am going to sh*t kick my butt from here to Penantanguishene and back.

adious,
