Power Question

Since I'm lazy, I'll just post this and see if you guys may be able to offer up any suggestions...? I'm just too lazy to re-type the whole thing! lol

Session Start (MSN - Nocturnal [Azure] ave [Cruzn_Bruzr]): Sat Aug 03 12:10:08 2002

Dave: whats up jer.
Nocturnal: yo yo, not much, you? Just oin' some hood bodywork...
Nocturnal: I have a question for you actually, though I'm gonna ask the board
Nocturnal: You know those portawatt Power converters? Turns your car lighter into an outlet, like a home plug?
Dave: yeah?
Dave: what about them? You thinking of getting one?
Nocturnal: I have a home audio sub - pounds like MAD. I was thinking of rigging that up through the car stereo, and plugging it in....when I'm done, simply unplug and take back into my room.
Dave: It will depend on how much power your sub will draw and how much power your converter is rated for? Also it will depend on if your stereo(which runs on 12V) is compatible with a sub that runs on 120.
Dave: 120V that is
Nocturnal: What do you think may end up damaged, should I risk such a venture? I think, if anything, I'd just blow a fuse when the sub trys to draw too much, but I don't know....

Dave: if you can get the 12V stereo to work with the 120V sub, then if anything goes wrong, you'll just blow a fuse. The converter will be fused, and you should make sure the sub is fused as well.
Nocturnal: Cool, alright..I'm going to post this convo on Thirdgen Ontario board and see if anyone else has any thoughts, cool? ;D I'm just too lazy to re-type the damn thing

It also depends how efficient the convertor is.... if it is cheap, you may experience noise through the sub from interference. It may not pound as much either. Won't hurt too try... how much is the convertor?

I've got a converter, just never actually did what you suggested... It could work.. home setups are designed to draw a max 15 amps else a breaker blows I believe...
