TPI swap complete

k, I've completed my swap from carb to TPI but now my oil pressure reading is up way, way, way past the limit. Does anyone have any idea why this may be? Also my accelerator is very soft. I have no clue whats going on.

no biggy

The TPI swap isn't going to change your oil pressure. Most likely the sending unit has gone insane. It sits at the back of the lower manifold for the TPI, behind the distributor. You could try disconnecting it and cleaning up the contact points ? Might work otherwise I've seen it before (hi pressure). If the pressure was ok before the TPI and you have no oil leaks now then I wouldn't let it slow me down much.

Oh yeah -- congrats on the swap.

RP.

the reis

um can i have my avatar back please??

j/k it might be a good thing that you have high oil pressure strong motor?? always better then a low oil pressure reading

but check it anyways.. oh btw is it an aftermarket gauge or stock...could be a problem there as well

Does the oil pressure fluctuate at all? If it stays up there all the time, then you may have the wrong sending unit in the block, it is by the distributor, like earlier mentioned. If it does fluctuate, then its all good.

I am using the stock guage. It goes so high that it gets stuck. I have to tap it for it to go down when I turn the car off. It just stays up there, no fluctuating. I thaight that if my oil pressure is too high then it is putting more stress on the gaskets and eventually they'll give.

replace the gauge or check the contact point(as mentioned above)

this should hopefully end your problem

that is exactly what happened to me one time, I used a dummy light sending unit for a guage, and it shot right up.

Which sending unti did you use?

I'm using the stock sending unit from the carb setup. Is the TPI one different? The total cost including parts and a little bit of labour came out to a little over 2 G's. The labour I did myself included ripping out the carb setup (harness and all) and then put in the TPI manifold and harness. The rest was done by a shop. I got messed up and I had to convert to an electric fuel pump so I said the heck.

the TPI sending unit is different, I am pretty sure about this. Only strange thing is.. that the sending unit worked before right?

Check the firewall connection near the brake booster..bad connection?? Check the output of teh guage manually with an ohm meter.

The computer does not use the guage.
